The next day I woke up happier than before. I was finally done with school and my birthday was better than I thought it would be.
I walked down to the kitchen and found my mother carrying a simple but cute cake in her hands with “happy birthday” written on it in blue.
“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Eva, happy birthday to you,” my mother sang and I smiled.
“Thank you, mommy,” I kissed her on the cheek and took the cake from her placing it on the kitchen counter.
“You just came back?” I asked noticing she was still in her scrubs.
“Yeah 10 minutes ago,” she said smiling but soon her smile fell into a frown.
