Chapter Thirty-Five The sky shifted to a beautiful shade of orange as the sun began to sink behind the mountains. I’d never seen a sunset like it, but I knew what would come after the radiant glow. First the gray. Then the vampires. If there even were vampires. I’d never really appreciated the comfort of knowing exactly who my enemies were. It had been easy in the city. Any kep in a black uniform wasn’t to be trusted. I missed the ease of knowing who to loathe. Someone had slaughtered the kep. Someone had almost killed Mari and me. There had to be a group. They had to have resources. They had to hate the kep. Not knowing who had attacked made every shadow look like a deadly enemy.
