Chapter 1
"COME on, Thea." Lily kept on pulling Thea's arms to their school's admin building. "Can you please walk faster or it would be too crowded for us to reach the front to see the ranking list with all the students that would be there."
Since this week would be the last week of the first semester of this school year, the new ranking would be posted on the bulletin board located at the lobby of the admin building so every student here in Karlson Elite Academy is excited to see the new ranking especially the freshmen like them.
She sighed. "We can just look at it after everyone, Lils. It would still be there until the first week of the next semester."
"But I still want to see it right now. I want to know if I made it as an Alpha or a Beta, I've been wishing for that since elementary." Lily said while pouting and kept on shaking her left arm.
Lily have been studying in KEA since elementary so she knew a lot about this academy while Thea just came in this academy this school year so she only knows what other people knows about KEA.
She smiled at the antics of her friend and classmate. "Okay, okay. Fine. You win."
Here in Karlson Elite Academy, there is a ranking system that categorize the students based on grades and from what family or clan a student belong, it's called the Alpha System but Thea calls it Lycan System since each category was like the one used in werewolves stories she loves to read, Alpha for the students in top of the ranking and Omega for the ones who were in the bottom.
There were five categories in the system:
*Alpha for the top 30 students
*Beta for the top 31-80 students
*Gamma for the top 81-180 students
*Delta for the top 181-380 students
*Omega for the 381-600 students
And according to Lily, being an Alpha or a Beta have it's perks and privileges but nobody knows about it except for those who were in that category, that's why every students in KEA wants to be part of the top 80 students since students in both category live like royalties in this academy.
But she is an exception, she doesn't care about that darn system that discriminate the students and set competition among the students, it's so unfair. Besides, something is off with this Alpha System based on her observation in her first semester in this academy but she can't seem to figure it out.
"My gosh!" Lily exclaimed in frustration. "How can we get in front with all these people?!"
When they arrived, the admin building's lobby is swarming with students trying to see the new ranking list. The academy already have a website where the ranking list could be posted to avoid this kind of chaos but it seems like the administration doesn't want to use the website in announcing the ranking. In Thea's opinion, may someone in the higher position in this academy likes to watch this kind of chaotic scenery. Annoying but she just shrugged it off since she's not really interested in the Alpha System or knowing what is her rank.
She smiled at Lily. "We can just wait after everyone is gone."
Lily glared at her but she only replied smiled sweetly. "This is all your fault! If you only walked faster."
"Okay, okay. I apologized." She laughed in amusement. "But we can wait here until everyone leaves."
"Naah. I'm still charging in to get up front." Lily seems so determined on seeing that ranking list.
Her forehead cringed. "Are you sure? You might get hurt."
"Bruises won't kill me." Lily said confidently.
She rolled her eyes. "You could also get injured, you know."
Lily grinned and winked at her. "Don't worry, I can handle myself."
"Then, good for you but I'm staying here." She said with conviction.
"Fine, suit yourself." Lily seems so fearless and really ready for action while doing some warm-up and stretching exercises that Thea couldn't help laughing at her friend's antics. "Here goes nothing."
She was still laughing while watching Lily charging in the crowd and ignoring grunts and complaints from the students she bumped. This side of Lily really what attracts her to be friends with her, she's so genuine and innocent.
She just stood by the entrance of the admin building, out of the way of the other students who are excitedly entering the building. Honestly, she really doesn't understand why this ranking is very important to them, she do understand that having good grades is important in finding and entering a good university especially if a student graduated with honors and top of the class but this kind of ranking, it seems so outrageous and unnecessary since what most of the students aim for is being on top of the ranking for it's perks, privileges and popularity.
"I don't get why they're so crazy with that ranking list, it's just a list." Thea turned to the person who spoke beside her, it was a pretty girl with a brown curly locks like a doll. "As if it is that important."
"They wanted to be an Alpha or a Beta, that's why." She replied with a genuine smile. "Don't you want to be one too?"
The girl frowned. "Tsk. Not interested. I'm more interested in graduating senior highschool and be able to enter a good university, besides I want to enjoy highschool first and not mind such mediocre things besides what we do and how we perform in college is what will be shown in our credentials."
"I think so too." At least, someone is as rational as she is in this academy. "So, I don't care even though I end up as an Omega."
"Though, I don't want to be an Omega." The girl remarked with humor. "I may not be that smart but my IQ level isn't that low."
Thea chuckled with her comment before she held out her right hand to the pretty girl. "I'm Thea Volkzbin of Class 1."
The pretty girl smiled and accepted her hand. "Saizzy Lambringe of Class 5, nice meeting you."
Her forehead knotted upon hearing her name. "I think I have heard your name from somewhere."
"I think you heard it from your guy classmates, I dumped I guess two or three of them." Saizzy grinned perkily. "But you're more famous than me in our year for being the clumsy beauty, especially when you almost blew up the Chemistry lab and broke one of the classroom windows with a baseball bat that slipped from your hand in gym class."
Thea felt so embarrassed that she's known for her clumsiness in their year. She really can't overcome this part of her despite how good she does in martial arts, there were really unfortunate times that she gets so clumsy.
She smiled awkwardly. "I just really get so clumsy sometimes."
Saizzy chuckled. "I think everybody does get clumsy sometimes."
She can't help pouting with what she said, she could feel a hint that Saizzy is teasing her. "What can I do, it's a part of me."
Saizzy clinged on her right arm like she have been doing that for a long time. "I'm just teasing you, Thea."
"I know." She replied while still pouting.
Saizzy smiled sweetly at her, it seems like she's trying to coax her after teasing her that she can't help smiling back.
"I hope we can be friends, Thea. If it's okay with you."
She smiled at Saizzy. "Sure. I'd love to be your friend."
Saizzy looked so happy and excited in finding a new friend, she also feels the same way since she only has Lily as a friend and now she have Saizzy.
"Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!" And speaking of Lily, she heard her squeal in the amidst of all the students and forcing her way out of the crowd to where she and Saizzy was standing. "Thea! Oh my gosh, oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!"
Lily looked so excited and at the same time, surprised when she grabbed her other arm. Thea can't help chuckling seeing Lily's face, it seems that she sees something amazing but she can't utterly believe it.
"What's with you?" Thea asked her. "Did you get a place as a Beta or maybe, an Alpha?"
"I only got to be a Gamma but guess what..." Lily pouted for a moment.
Lily changed her expressions so fast that she got curious on why she's squealing like she won a lottery, if she only ranked as a Gamma. What she's so excited about?
She raised a brow at her. "What?"
"Ten freshmen ranked as an Alpha and you won't believe it, they all took the top 10 spots and beat the other Alphas in the higher year." Lily exclaimed. "But that's not what excites me, it's because you placed third."
Thea might have misheard what Lily just said because from what she heard, Lily was saying she ranked third which means that she ranked as an Alpha.
"What?"
"Thea, you've got to be an Alpha!" Then, she turned to the Saizzy who's still beside her. "And you too, Miss Lambringe. You placed sixth."
***
THIS ranking s**t is a nuisance.
Landon hates crowded places but his overbearing cousin and friends dragged him here in the admin building for amusement, according to them since the new ranking list was posted in the bulletin board of the admin building.
His friends were just looking for something to drove away their boredom since there are no classes starting today since the finals were done and it's the last week of the semester. They weren't really interested in that ranking list or where they categorized, it doesn't matter to them.
They just transferred here as freshmen because it was what their parents wanted and they can't oppose them after all the troubles they got into at the academy where they graduated junior highschool. So, they don't understand this Alpha System this academy implements though it was thoroughly explained in the orientation.
"I really don't understand why this ranking is so important to them, I just don't get it." His cousin, Jace said while shaking his head.
"Same here." Vance agreed. "And why are they so eager to see it now, can't they just wait for their turn to see it. Look at that girl, she's even forcing her way in that crowd."
Vance was referring to that petite girl that were from the other class in their year, she doesn't even care if she bumped or stepped on someone just to get near the bulletin board.
"Tsk." He reacted before returning his attention to the book he's reading.
His friends laughed with his reaction. "Nothing can really caught Mr. Cold's attention except books."
"And everything around can get yours." He remarked without sparing his cousin a glance.
"It's because my surroundings is very beautiful." Jace replied. "And speaking of beautiful, I spotted two beautiful girls by the entrance."
"That's Saizzy Lambringe of Class 5, she almost dumped half of the male population in our year this first semester. And the other is Thea Volkzbin of Class 1, the clumsy beauty." Rexel made the introduction in behalf of the two unaware girls. "I heard, they also just entered KEA this school year like us."
"Is that the beauty that Landon saved from falling at the stairs on first day of classes?" Jace commented.
"That's her, though I heard she almost blew up the Chem lab for accidentally mixing a wrong potion into their group's experiment and she almost injured Landon when a baseball bat entered your classroom through the window, from what I heard she swinged the bat at her all might to hit the ball but it slipped from her hand and flew all the way to your classroom's window." Rexel is really well-informed in everything.
"Maybe, she and Landon were destined since they're always connected with each other in chaos." Jace joked.
"So what, if we are." He remarked in poker-face.
"Uh..." His friends reacted before bursting into laughter.
His friends are really annoying to the core especially his cousin who thinks and makes everything as a joke. No wonder they made many enemies from their previous school, aside from girl troubles that his friends got mixed up with that really was the biggest reason why they are here in KEA.
"She's pretty though dangerously clumsy." Ivo stated with slight admiration.
"And she's off-limits." He said sternly.
"Uh...Possessive." Here they go again that he glared at them.
They really know how toget into his nerves, if murder wasn't a crime then maybe he already have murdered these four morons using his bare hands.
"Hi, Jace." Two of his and Jace's girl classmates approached their group that silence the other morons, Jace replied cockily. "Congratulations on placing seventh on the ranking."
That surprised the five of them that they were speechless for a moment. Yes, Jace is smart but he never takes anything seriously especially studying and yet he placed seventh out of the 600 students in the senior highschool department of KEA.
"No kidding?"
"Seriously?"
The two girls seem confused on their reaction. "Yeah. You can check it out yourselves, also congratulations to you, Landon for placing second."
He was surprised but what surprised him more and his friends is what they said next, it seems like they all got a spot on the top 10 of that freaking ranking list that Jace forced his way in the crowd to check it out and then we heard a series of profanities from his moron cousin.
"The Alphas are here!" Someone shouted that magically the crowd swarming in front of the bulletin board disperse to make way for the people entering the admin building.
