Prologue

Happiness. Love. Sadness. Anger. Everyday thousands of people feel these emotions and even more. Too many to count. Violet Paisi has only felt a portion of those. She's never experienced happiness or love or anything of the sort because she was never shown any.        Since she was born, from the moments she could start remembering things, she was mistreated. By everyone. Including her own family.        Her father, Marco, constantly abused her. Hit after hit. Kick after kick. One word from her he didn't like and it was a days worth of abuse. Tatyana, her mother, didn't abuse her, no. But she didn't save her either.    Her green eyes watched with cold and blank stares as her own daughter coughed up blood and bruised after beatings.        After she'd have a few glasses of wine she would get up and go to bed saying 'her head hurt from all the screaming.'        Her pack did nothing either. Not that they really could because her father was the Alpha and they wouldn't disobey their Alpha and Luna. She didn't hate them for it, there was nothing they could do. She saw the pity some of them held in their eyes but she ignored it. Hell, some even participated in the beatings.        Every night, after her father was done with her, she would sneak outside to sit in the cool air and cry. At some point it became a routine for her and she stopped crying. She stopped feeling really. She knew she would never feel anything other than pain and sadness and hatred towards her family. She never really believed she was meant to feel anything other than that.        The reason she gets treated like this? Because she's extremely rare. She wasn't exactly unwanted when her parents became pregnant with her. But with them being lycans, they were promised a son as their first born child.        Lycans in general were rare, but when they did breed, it was always a boy first, it was how their genes worked. The male child would take over once the current alpha couldn't do it anymore. But there were complications with the birth resulting in her parents not being able to get pregnant again, otherwise her mother would die. Once her father heard that from the doctor he became distant which turned to anger years after her birth. Her mother always handed her off to the nannies unless she needed to be breast fed. But even then, she was bottle fed.        Violet was now only 17 and her birthday was nearing as the leaves on the trees began to turn a range of colors, oranges, reds, yellows and leaves began to fall leaving bare branches. Her birthday was not a celebration though. Not for her. It was just another year of being unwanted and unloved.        She stood from her spot, wiping off the dirt and stray leaves from her jeans before sneaking back into her room. The wind blew her jet black hair as the days became chillier. A shiver ran over her body, goosebumps erupting over her pale skin. It wasn't the best but she got the old and dusty attic. Her parents didn't think she deserved the lavishness of the 'castle' as she liked to call it. They didn't really let her do anything other than chores. Cleaning, cooking, anything to keep her away from them. They had pack members doing most of it but they worked her as much as they could.
