Chapter 1 ~ Finding Her

THIRD PERSON POV***         Violet awoke from a nightmare with a start. She was used to this. It was always the same thing, her father beating her. Sometimes he did it to the point of killing her when the nightmares got bad but most of her nightmares were just that, him beating her. She wiped away the stray tears that managed to fall without her noticing and masked her feelings for the day with a blank and emotionless face. She calmed her fast beating heart and got up from the makeshift bed she made with various things in the attic. There wasn't an actual bed but she seemed to make it work with miscellaneous things strewn around the attic.         A bustling noise could be heard from where she was, the attic was just up the stairs from the kitchen. Violet reluctantly changed into a pair of blue jeans and a black baggie t-shirt. That's pretty much all she owned. Jeans and t-shirts. She didn't mind, she wasn't one with a fancy style anyway. She let down the attic door and climbed out, raising it back up before she could bother anyone with how long the process takes. She turned and walked down the stairs, wondering what the commotion was going on in the kitchen.         Many women, mostly omegas, ran around the kitchen. Some were washing dishes and some prepared breakfast. Bacon, eggs, waffles. Various things were being made. It smelled delicious and made her stomach growl. Even though she was hungry, she didn't want to eat anything, afraid it might come back up.         "What's going on?" She asked Mary, a blonde woman who had gentle blue eyes. She was one of the few that actually talked to Violet. She was also the head of the kitchen.         "Didn't you hear? Today is the day of the Alpha meetings. All the Alphas of the neighboring packs come and we host them this year." She answered, pouring a batch of scrambled eggs into a bowl.         "Oh." Violet said, watching Mary move to the stove to make another round of eggs. "No one tells me anything anymore so I didn't know." Mary turned her gaze to the teenager. Violet could feel the pity of her look burning a hole in the back of her head as she walked through the hallway to the living room.          Timothy, Marcus' Beta bumped into her as he walked past her, making her yelp as her back hit the wall. At first she thought it was an accident but when she turned, he had a smirk on his face.          "The alpha is looking for you in his office. He doesn't look too happy either." And with that he continued on his way to the kitchen.          Great. So it begins. She thought, dreading having to go to his office. Her hands clenched into fists so tight it almost felt like she broke the skin with her nails.          When she got to the door she hesitated. What if she just ran away? She had a chance to right now, no one keeping an eye on her. Then she thought otherwise. Being a rouge never ended well for them. They either went crazy or got killed by another pack. So, she took a deep breath and knocked.           A low and gruff voice came from the other side, "Come in." He really didn't sound happy. Violet took a few steps before stopping in front of his desk. The dark brown haired man looked up at his daughter. His grey eyes held nothing but disgust at the being in front of him.           It hurt to see someone who was supposed to love her look at her that way but her face remained devoid of any emotion, something she's gotten good at controlling.           "You were looking for me, father?" She spoke lowly, trying to be careful not to anger him. But even the slightest of words had the back of his hand swinging at her face. It was hard but fast and left her cheek stinging, immediately turning red. Her face turned and her hair fell over her face from the impact.           "Don't you dare call me your father. I am Alpha to you." He said. His tone was calm but his voice was laced with venom. Violet sniffed slightly, and faced him again. She was trying so hard not to break.           "You were looking for me, Alpha?" She repeated, correcting her words.           "Unfortunately, yes." He sighed, "There will be a few packs coming to us today to stay for a few days and I suggest you stay out of sight. I don't need you burdening our guests. Why don't you go busy yourself in the kitchen."           He stood up and moved his face dangerously close to hers, "If I see one spec of dust, then it's back to the dog house and I know sweet Violet doesn't want that. Does she?" He asked, running his hand down the side of the cheek he hit. It was gentle but it unnerved Violet.           Violet tensed at his words. She's been to the dog house a few times, and it's not as fun as you'd think. She shook her head side to side.           "ANSWER ME WHEN I'M SPEAKING TO YOU!" He shouted.           Violet whimpered, closing her eyes to stop the tears, "No, Alpha."           He sat back in his seat, a calm expression on his face as if he didn't just strain the veins in his neck to yell at her.           "Then get the hell out. I can't stand to look at your face." She turned and left without another word. She ran back to her room before anyone could see her burst into tears. When she managed to climb up the few attic steps, her knees failed her and she dropped to the floor. She silently cried, clutching her stomach.           Sometimes she just wished she'd died in the womb or was never even born to begin with. Things would be so much easier. Maybe her parents would have had a boy then. Maybe they would have been happy for once.         Her vision darkened and her eyelids felt like bricks. She welcomed the darkness and fell into a deep sleep. TRIGGERING CONTENT AHEAD           •••• *4 hours later*         It was well into the afternoon when Violet woke up to the sound of someone coming into her room. She rubbed at her eyes and looked at the entrance. The first thing she saw was his ginger hair, she immediately knew who it was. Timothy stood there, staring at her with his empty black eyes. It felt as though he was towering over her but in reality, they were about the same height, if not, she was a little taller at 5'9. She couldn't read the expression on his face but she didn't like the feeling she got from it. As far as she knew, he hadn't found his mate yet, even though he's in a lycan pack he was just your regular wolf but something about him had her father wanting him to be his beta. Violet never paid too much attention to him, he never bothered her till recently to which she didn't know why.          Her body tensed when he started pulling up the stairs, her only way of exiting the room, and walking towards her.          "Timothy what are yo-" he pounced on her, covering her mouth with his hand. He wasn't as built as most of the people in their pack but he still had strength and for Violet, she hadn't even shifted yet, at least not till she turned 18. She was technically human. Timothy held her down and when she felt his hand wander up her shirt, it clicked what he was trying to do. She started struggling against him but it was really no use.          "How does such an unwanted little thing like you get such beautiful features?" He asked, an evil grin on his lips as he looked her up and down. He forced her legs apart with his knee and started grinding against her. She let out a sob and Timothy ticked his tongue.          "Don't worry, sweetheart, it'll only hurt for a moment." That's when she felt his claw pierce her stomach.           "Oops." He feigned shock which turned back to a grin. His claws ripped at her pants, giving him enough access. He tore at her panties and before he could do something else, Violet bit the hand that covered her mouth.           He reared back in pain, "You b***h! I was just going to get it done and over with but now I'll be sure to take my time." His hand rose and came back down as a fist connecting with her face. Her hands were up to try to protect herself and she tried to squirm out of his grip but black spots covered her vision and soon, she was back to welcoming the darkness.             ••••                SAMUEL'S POV***          I hated wearing suits and I hated going to this kind of stuff but I had to being the Alpha of the Ash Bane pack. The host of the meeting is the Demon Blood pack. They're enemies of ours but that's what this meeting is for. To create an alliance.          I looked in the mirror, smoothing some non existent wrinkles in the suit jacket. I combed my fingers through the slicked back brown locks on my head.          There was a knock at my door, "Enter." I said, knowing it was my Beta, Seth. I could smell his cologne that he puts way too much of on, some one would be able to smell him coming from a mile away.          "Damn man, you need to cut that s**t. It's getting too long." He smirked. He was only joking and I knew that. Only he could talk to me that way. Otherwise, I would've ripped him a new asshole. He and I grew up with each other and he always joked around like this.          "Don't remind me." I growled. I turned around to face him rather than looking at him through the mirror, "Was there something you needed to tell me or did you just come to insult my hair?"          He chuckled, "I would prefer the latter but our ride is here to take us to the meeting."          I sighed, "Well, let's go."         ••••           As soon as we crossed the border, my lycan, Cory, started getting antsy. Although I was a feared leader and powerful enough to wipe a pack out with the flick of my wrist, didn't mean I or my lycan didn't have feelings.           We stepped into the pack house and was greeted by the Alpha, along with the Luna and the Alpha's Beta. I didn't like the ginger and had to restrain myself from breaking his jaw. I felt nothing but disinterest from the blonde haired Luna and the Alpha seemed fake with his interactions with me.          "Hello," he smiled widely, it didn't reach his eyes, "I'm Alpha Marcus, this is my mate, Tatyana, along with my Beta, Timothy. We do hope you enjoy your stay."          I scoffed on the inside and only gave him a sarcastic smile.         "Uh.. we'll be eating some dinner before we start the meeting. Please, allow Tati and I to show you to the dining room." He raised his arm towards the dinning room, silently asking me to lead the way.         Although I didn't care for an alliance with this pack, lycans were a rare breed so it was smart to stick together. Doesn't mean I have to trust the bastard. Cory agreed with me and I felt him stir. As we passed the kitchen, I felt the need to go in there instead. But I didn't and sat down at the long dinning table once we reached the room.         There were other Alphas from other packs, but they weren't lycans. A few of them I knew already, some I didn't really care to know, and others that were just completely out of the question. I heard a few girls giggling and talking while they sent me flirty glances. I paid them no mind. They told each other that they heard rumors that I've slept with many women and am really good in bed. While the latter is true, I crinkled my nose in disgust. I've slept with a few women not going to lie, in all of my 26 years, I've had my fair share of experiences but they're exaggerating to the extreme.         Our food arrived and I ate a bit as Marcus tried to ask me questions about myself. He no doubt has heard stories about me and how I rule. Everyday I hear a new rumor going around and although I don't stop them, it annoys me that people think I'm a certain way without knowing the facts. Sure, I put on a hard exterior but I run my pack the way I do so that they are protected. I have their best interests in mind. TRIGGERING CONTENT AHEAD        ••••          I ate a few more bites before excusing myself. The atmosphere was beginning to suffocate me. I'm going to take a look around, I mind link with Seth who nods and continues to empty his plate. Seth didn't have a mate which meant he focused on training and protecting the pack. On one hand I appreciated him for it but on the other I knew he longed to have someone by his side. He's a few years younger than me, being 24, but we all shift at 16 and are able to tell who our mate is but neither of us have found anyone.        Again, I pass the kitchen, it now being empty of people making food, and this time I enter. I look to my right as I start to get that feeling again. Cory began to whine in my head making my nose scrunch up in annoyance.        Calm down, I spoke to him. I walked up the steps and a scent hit my nose. It smelled like Hot chocolate and mint and my mind became intoxicated from it. I passed several rooms and the more my pace picked up, the stronger the scent became. I stopped and looked up and noticed a string to what was most likely an attic was hanging from the ceiling.         I reached up and pulled it down. The scent was the strongest it could've been but then a strange metallic smell hit my nose. My heart panicked, knowing what the smell was, and I raced up the steps. My eyes immediately spotted her.         A guttural growl rose from my throat as I saw the scene. Her pants were shredded next to her along with her shirt and underwear, blood spilled to the sides of her stomach, bruises littered her body, and as I got closer, claw marks raked down her wrists.        Seth, get the car ready then get to the attic and help me quickly. I could feel my lycan at the surface clawing it's way out. I felt my eyes turn black and I squeezed my eyes shut before I willed them to go back to normal and pushed Cory back down. I stripped my jacket off of me and covered her before anyone could see her.         She stirred, groaning as her eyes slowly fluttered open. Her pale green eyes looked at me in confusion before they rolled to the back of her head, her head falling to the side.         Mate. Cory growled and became enraged at the sight of our mate in this state. My claws sprung forward and I dug them into the wood floor just as Seth entered the room. I turned to look at him, almost shifting fully to protect my mate but only my canines and claws came out.        "Whoa," Seth said, looking behind me. I moved so I stood in the way, blocking him from seeing her and growled. "Okay, look I'm not going to do anything Sam. Drake should be handling the others downstairs but we should probably get her to the hospital, okay?"        Drake was my third in command who came along as well. I calm down a bit at his words, there was nothing I could do for her right now, not like this.        My claws retracted and so did my fangs. I quickly turn around and gently pick up my mate, I had to hand her to Seth for a moment so we could get out of the attic, Cory got slightly angry when he touched her but I soon took her back and ran out of the house, getting into the vehicle and made sure she got to a hospital. My heart was racing, I could hear hers but it was faint and I just hoped we could get to the hospital in time.
