Chapter 9The young receptionist in the main lobby recognized Chad from the other day and she tossed him a winning smile before saying he could just go on upstairs. He was family, after all, no need to announce him. Chad flashed a thankful grin at her and thought he saw her swipe her brow. He might be unattainable to women but far be it from him not to use his good looks and easy charm to his advantage. Stepping onto the elevator, he pressed the button for the top floor and then shot up noiselessly to the same place where, just a couple of days earlier, he’d learned how much his life had changed since Silas’ untimely passing. As the doors pinged open, he emerged into a silent, empty lobby. No one manned the secretary’s desk and a quick peek into the conference room revealed all was quiet.
