8 Sergeant Terry Potts was alone in a police four-wheel-drive. He pulled up in front of the Wauchope Hotel, retrieved a file from the passenger seat, and got out of the vehicle. Russell Foley and Sam Rose, watched him from the hotel verandah as he approached. Potts had a steely, determined look on his face; a look both Sam, and Foley, had seen many times, and recognised as not the look of a man bearing good news. Potts halted in front of Sam and Foley. “Good morning again,” he greeted. “Your being here indicates to me this is not a social visit,” Foley observed. “We weren’t expecting you.
