The moment the Food Supervision Bureau sealed off our fast food restaurant, I felt like the ground was falling out from under me. “Why are you closing our store? What gives you the right?” I yelled, my voice shaking as I pushed forward to argue.
This place was our lifeline, our only source of income. With my legs useless, lying here like a dead weight, and Jack still in school, my family depended on this restaurant. Without it, how were we supposed to survive?
The officials didn’t even blink. “Your store does not meet hygiene standards and uses inferior and harmful ingredients. According to the law, we have the right to seal it.”
I refused to believe it, but when I heard the manager gasp in horror and saw him storm into the kitchen, I knew we were done for.
