The moment Scarlett deadpanned with the words your mother, Draven all but froze. He seemed shocked, excited and afraid all at once. Lilah reached up and cupped his face, trying to draw his attention back to the world of the living. It took him a second to snap back. He whispered, “Won’t she die?”
