Sadie has never looked more beautiful to me than she does right now. She’s still too shocked to return my smile. Her body’s still coming down from that cloud I sent her to. She’s entirely unselfconscious—the way she is when she attacks a wave and there’s no time to second-guess herself—and deep in the arms of pure joy.
When a smile does break on her lips, it’s the most glorious smile I’ve ever witnessed.
All I can do is bow down to her and kiss her again and again. I guess we haven’t come full kissing circle just yet. She throws her arms around me and pulls me close, as though she’s seriously considering never letting go again.
“f**k, Dev,” she sighs when I give her back the use of her lips. “I didn’t know I had that in me.”
