“Hey, champ!” Sam heads straight for Devon’s son and gives him a high-five. Earlier, at dinner, when I talked about meeting Finn, to my utter surprise, my brother announced his new life goal, now that he’s in his forties, is to become a father. All of us did a double-take, Dad included.
We exchange hellos, and Sam asks if he can take Finn to a perfect spot for awesome five-year-old surfer dudes a little farther down the cove. Of course, Devon can’t say no when Sam puts it like that and Finn looks up at her with begging eyes as large as some of the massive seashells crunching under our feet. I assume that Devon knows very well she can trust my brother with her boy when it comes to the ocean.
“Sam’s feeling broody,” Suzy blurts out, as she is wont to do.
