On Sunday, my father takes Finn, Hunter and Bobby to a baseball game. Maybe my mother wanted him out of the house for Sadie’s first visit since we were teenagers. Perhaps Mom doesn’t trust her reaction when she sees Sadie again after all these years—twenty-four years of motherly loyalty has built into an aversion to all things Sadie Ireland. All I know is that when I asked her if Sadie and I could come round, she said yes without too much hesitation in her voice.
Still, nerves flutter in my belly as we approach the house. On the way over, a stranger pretended to shoot Sadie with a g*n made out of his fingers. She was a good sport about it and shot him right back. Apparently, this has been happening quite a bit since the King & Prince finale.
