That day, as me and Shawn spoke, a maid came and wrapped my hand before advising me to stay outside and not to do anything. Of course Shawn had to hide. I didn’t want his hide to be hang up because of my selfishness. He was after all a vampire. Humans were still wary of them yet they held more power than any of the species. Talk about silly.
This went on for a few days as I got used to my freedom with Shawn. As the days rolled by, I felt that the maids and all the house help had become nicer to me.
It had been a few weeks since then and as summer drew to a close, something big happened.

“Quickly! Grab her! We mustn’t let that witch escape.” Bellowed the head maid as someone rushed after me.
Here I am, running for my life while my pursuers are hot on my tail.
What wrong have I committed to be chased like this?
Is my very existence a crime?
A FEW HOURS EARLIER
“Serve up the dishes soon. We will be having guests over.” Came the butler while looking at me with a smug face.
Why the smug face? Something dangerous was up and I didn’t like it.
“Melissa, go and clean up. We are having very important visitors over and you need to go make yourself presentable.” Said Serena as some of her maids passed me what looked to be like a dress.
“Be grateful that you are even receiving these, you little trump.” Whispered the maid. Of course, trample the motherless girl.
Looking at the lilac dress that was in front of me, I was skeptical. Serena had never been nice without cause. There was always a price to pay whether now or in the future. I had learnt never to receive anything freely from anyone as it would have dire consequences, especially not from witches like Serena.
Sensing my hesitation, Serena smirked.
“Don’t worry. You will be paying for it shortly.” She said as her maids dragged me upstairs, prepping me for something. Oh boy!
***
“You are most welcome to our humble abode.” Came my step mother’s sweet as sickness voice.
We are currently in front of the main door welcoming the guest. My step sister, Delilah, was busy ogling at the visitors while I studied them instead.
One had hair as white snow and the other hair the color of death. They looked quite alike yet very different. Mr. White hair looked sickly, like he would lose his life with just a gust of wind while Mr. Black hair seemed to have the strength of the world on his shoulders.
They had pale skin and sharp features and were really tall. Hmm, interesting. Their features were pretty good. Almost too perfect for a human. Like they were,
“Vampires.” Whispered Serena and I smirked at her.
Serena hates vampires the most!
“Greetings to our esteemed guests. Welcome to our manor.” I said in a sweet voice with a wide smile.
All eyes were on me as I ushered the guests in and I suddenly realized that it was not only the two look alikes as our guests.
“I didn’t know that duke Hamilton had such poor reception that a maid has to take over the daughter’s duties.” Came a deep voice that sent shivers down my body and not the good kind. I looked to the new comers and my heart thumped loudly,
‘TROUBLE!’ went the alarms in my head.
The third guy had grey hair and blood red eyes and judging by the way his eyes brightened the moment he saw me; I knew that he was here for me.
“I need to escape.” I thought as I slowly ebbed away from the crowd.
“Forgive us but let us finish this transaction quickly.” Came Serena’s reply that had me bolting out of there. All I could hear in the distance the were the orders thrown by the two scary people and their minions hot on my trail.
**
I knew the lands better than any patrolling guard and knew just how exactly I could leave the place with minimal damage.
The duke’s summer manor was neighbored by villages to the South and North while to the West was a marsh that led to the vampire’s land. My plan was to go there and look for Shawn so that I can escape my father’s destructive nature. To the East was the land of the dark fae but, that’s a story for another day.
As I run through the forest at the back of the house, I can hear the whooshing of wind and leaves as the vampires sped after me. I know that vampires have super speed and other abilities but even then, I still had to try.
“Faster. We are about to find her. That girl actually has the guts to go into the marsh. Does she know what is in there and on the other side?” said one some ways away.
I didn’t have the time to think of why I could hear their voices clearly as I run even harder, pushing the limit, trying to escape. I jumped over a bush of black roses and landed into a bush of thorns.
‘How could I forget these?’ I thought as I tried to move away from the bush. This proved to be hard as with every movement I made, the thorns dug deeper into my skin. I almost cried out in pain but I stopped as the vampires had caught up to me.
I thought that because I was their merchandise, I would be handled with a little softness but I was mistaken. The guy with black hair took a chunk of hair and lifted me up in to the air automatically dislodging me form the thorns.
“You know, for a human, and a female at that, you are very fast.” He said as he clenched harder and I winced in pain.
“Playing all tough now are we? Won’t cry out? Good, it is more fascinating to break the likes of you.” Added the guy with white hair as he swung a fist towards me, making me fly out of the other guy’s clutches and flying into a tree.
The impact caused a few pine corns and leaves to fall as I landed and I found that the scent of the pine corns was peaceful. A bone, probably my rib, had been broken at the impact and I had heard a snap when I hit the tree.
“She sure is tough. Let’s have some fun.”
I thought that they meant to keep hitting me, something I could take but I was wrong, very wrong.
