Harley felt the pressure of the situation weighing him down, he wished this whole bitter episode would end, but his father seemed to think otherwise, he immediately attacked his prey without fear of repercussions, he hoped that everything would turn out well. The police had arrived at the facilities, they had been meeting for half an hour in the meeting room with only two people.
Andrea approached the man, feeling in her heart that something was about to happen.
—Are they really interrogating them?— The girl's voice was saddened, she seemed to be too affected by the recent events.
—Yes, my father wants to bring criminal charges against them for having altered the hiring processes for criminals and being accomplices in your abuse case— Harley said the words carelessly, as soon as they came out of his mouth he regretted it completely, Andrea's eyes had turned a red color, betraying the pain it caused her.
—I'll have to report it, won't I?— Although he wanted to protect her from the situation, he couldn't deny that it was a necessary evil, he didn't want to revictimize her, or put her through the horrible questions that, towards the police, but they had taken things too far not to press charges.
Harley gave in to the impulse of her heart, he stretched out his arms hugging her and comforting her, that selfless gesture was all Andrea needed to break down, the tears began to flow out of her eyes uncontrollably, the pressure, worry and sense of insecurity that had been haunting her since they broke up finally came to the surface —I...I don't know...— her broken voice wouldn't allow her to articulate a word.
—You don't have to explain anything to anyone- he whispered in her ear, caressed her head with his right hand, hoping to calm her down —if you're not willing, you don't have to do it now, I'll talk to the authorities so they leave you alone.
The girl just wanted it all to end. She hugged more to his chest, letting the tears come out, the smell of his perfume enveloped her nose, it was a nice smell, masculine and powerful, it had a delicious mixture with some sweat, the girl thought, she wouldn't mind staying there all day.
The minutes passed until everyone left the room, the faces of the employees said it all, they were embarrassed and the girl seemed very upset, it was obvious that she had made the wrong decision regarding the orders of her boss, she should have applied a little pressure when she saw an incorrect procedure.
—Andrea Smith— echoed the policeman's voice.
The sheriff had seen all kinds of things in his almost fifty years of service, he had seen almost every guy who worked in this company grow up, he was surprised by the commotion they were making, although he was not impressed, he knew that sooner or later Chris J. Anderson's rotten apple would do something bad, he knew it the moment he saw her eyes that day when her prom date announced that he had molested her, that guy would never change.
She walked into the room, a petite girl, and with big eyes, she looked like a little doll compared to the girls in town, she wore those typical city clothes, she imagined that in another situation, she would look more confident and surely outgoing, she couldn't imagine, how a nice girl ended up involved with such a piece of trash.
—Miss Smith, have you had any kind of romantic relationship with Mr. Chris J. Anderson? Anderson?— the woman had opened her eyes, and a sad expression appeared on her features.
—Yes, we dated for a while, but we broke up until recently.
—Tell me about your relationship with Mr. Chris - it would be a long morning, the sheriff had known since he received the call from Mr. Halland.
—When I arrived in town, he was the first to welcome me, he was very attentive and Cortez as we got to know each other, as our relationship progressed and his mother got involved, everything was a bit rushed after that— Andrea played with her hands.
—I understand then that she didn't count on the woman's approval —she knew that old woman, she went to church every Sunday, everyone listened to her speak after the sermon, that woman always had something to say, but in spite of her nefarious attitudes, people loved her, it would be quite a commotion this Sunday when they met.
—No, I didn't count on her and I wasn't interested either— Andrea answered more confidently, she didn't intend to be hard on the woman, but she was tired of that family chasing her in her misfortunes —She is a horrible woman, she spoke very badly about my mother for having a degenerative disease, she thought that her son and she were in another social class, above everyone else, it wasn't enough for her little offspring— she let out all the anger she had contained.
—She sounds very upset— the commissioner noted in his notes.
—Do you know why we broke up? He was yelling at me in the middle of the street because I asked him to move in together to reduce my expenses and help my mother in New York, the argument got heated and he raised his hand, if it wasn't for Hunter who tried to rob us, to scare him he would have hit me that night— The sheriff raised an eyebrow, he wasn't expecting to hear that name.
—Hunter? Which Hunter?— The girl's cheeks immediately lit up, by his gesture she knew almost immediately, it had to be the insufferable Hunter Halland doing his thing with one more girl in town, he seemed to have a radar for jerks.
—I'm not sure of his last name— the shame grew inside Andrea, she had never thought of asking him for his last name, she had assumed she didn't need it and now it would be much more awkward, the man would think she was an easy girl.
—Of course, they never are— answered the sheriff with a contemptuous voice —go on with your story.
Andrea had a bad feeling with his words, would Hunter have a reputation in town? Would he have the reputation of a Don Juan? He was cute, nice and he was very good in bed, he would surely have his own women chasing him, but she felt good, because he was the one who came looking for her, besides they had nothing serious, he could go out with whomever he liked.
—Listen I met him that night because he tried to help me when my ex-boyfriend tried to hit me, after that we broke up, I didn't want to know anything about a first class abuser like that, but no matter how hard I tried to get away he found ways to look for me— I showed him the call log of the phone, The sheriff raised his eyebrows in astonishment, then the girl went on to show him the threatening messages, the amount of rude things he said to her and she had never said anything —Today things changed, he tried to assault me at work, after trying to break into my house the night before.
—The night before?
—Yes, luckily, Hunter was with me when he arrived and was able to shoo him away quickly, but I don't want to know what could have happened if I was alone— the sheriff thought otherwise, finding her with Hunter could only have made the man go even crazier.
