The Mysterious Shadow
The darkness of the night had gradually enveloped the village. The faint light of the moon was falling on the peak of the village’s old temple, which now stood abandoned. The villagers said that no one wandered near this temple. Some considered it part of old folklore, while others believed it to be true and stayed away. But what the real truth was, no one knew. The weather was cold and eerie. The wind was howling, as if some invisible force was looming everywhere. In an old mansion located at the corner of the village, Rajan was packing his belongings. He was new here, an investigator who studied strange and mysterious events. He had heard many stories about the peculiar happenings around the temple of this village. His curiosity had drawn him here. Rajan called his companion and friend, Neel. Neel was a local villager and a college friend of Rajan. They met again after several years, and when Neel told Rajan about the village, he couldn’t resist coming. When Neel shared the village’s stories, Rajan’s eyes lit up. The old temple, where strange noises were heard as evening fell, and people often disappeared after going there. Some claimed to have seen a mysterious shadow that lingered around the temple. But no one could provide evidence of this. Rajan had said to Neel, "I need to uncover the truth behind these stories." That night, Rajan decided to visit the temple with Neel. Neel was a bit skeptical of this decision. He feared the temple and its stories, but with Rajan by his side, he mustered up the courage and went along. It was nighttime, and silence surrounded the path to the temple. Holding torches in their hands, the two moved towards the temple. Apart from the sound of their footsteps, nothing else could be heard. Suddenly, the wind grew even colder, and Rajan felt as if someone was watching them. He immediately looked around, but saw nothing. As they approached the temple, they noticed a strange light spreading around. The temple doors were open, and a faint glow was coming from within. Neel shivered as he said, "Rajan, something doesn’t feel right here. We should go back." But Rajan's eyes gleamed with a different kind of excitement. Ignoring Neel's words, he said, "Neel, this is exactly the mystery we need to solve. This place is even more intriguing to me." Neel took a deep breath and followed Rajan. As soon as they entered the temple, they felt an unusual chill. The air inside was much colder than outside. They kept moving forward, and suddenly they heard a whisper from one corner of the temple. Both looked at each other, and Rajan gestured for Neel to remain silent. The sound was gradually getting louder. Rajan pointed his torch in the direction of the noise. There was a shadow standing by the wall. Fear was evident on Neel's face, but the investigator within Rajan was even more excited by the sight. He quietly said, "This is the shadow people talk about." The shadow suddenly started to move, and then, without making a sound, it merged into the wall. Rajan and Neel stood frozen in shock. Neel stammered, "What… what was that?" Rajan didn’t respond, his eyes now fixated on a small door on the other side of the temple. He felt that behind that door lay something that could unlock the mystery. Without any hesitation, he stepped towards the door. The door was old and heavy, with strange symbols carved on it, symbols Rajan had never seen before. Neel tried to stop him, "Rajan, I don’t think we should go inside. This is all too strange." But Rajan opened the door. Behind it was a staircase leading down into complete darkness. They both turned on their torches and began descending the steps. At the bottom of the stairs was a large room, in the center of which stood a stone table, and on it lay an ancient book. Rajan picked up the book. As soon as he touched it, a strong gust of wind blew through the room, and all the torches lit up by themselves. Neel, frightened, stepped back while Rajan began to flip through the pages of the book. It was written in an ancient language, and Rajan was trying to make sense of it. Suddenly, strange sounds began to echo around the room, as if some invisible force was surrounding them. The air became heavier, and Neel, panicking, said, "Rajan, we need to get out of here." But Rajan, engrossed in the book, said, "This place, this temple, everything is connected. There’s something hidden here that we need to discover." Neel could now feel the fear rising within him. He grabbed Rajan’s hand, trying to pull him away, but just then, there was a loud bang, and the door to the room shut by itself. Both of them were startled and began looking around. The room had become even darker, and the coldness in the air seemed to seep into their bones. Suddenly, the pages of the book began to flip rapidly on their own. Rajan saw that an image was beginning to form on the last page. It was the same shadow they had seen earlier inside the temple. Rajan's heart began to race. He realized that this was no ordinary event. This temple and the secret it concealed were far deeper than he had imagined. The shadow appeared again, this time more clearly. It encircled them, and the howling of the wind grew even louder. Rajan and Neel understood that escaping from here wasn’t going to be easy. But would this shadow harm them? Or was it pointing towards an even bigger mystery? They were about to find out soon...
