The earthquake hit, and I helped my girlfriend save her first love, only to be pushed by her into the ruins.

She kept saying she would find someone to save me, but she never returned.

"James is an engineer; he knows the building structure best. We're just trying to save more people."

But how could she forget that I was the top cardiac surgeon in the country?

Later, I luckily escaped, but my right hand was crippled.

When I finally let go of the past, she knelt before me, begging me to operate on her.

I smiled bitterly and raised my hand.

"Thanks to you, I can no longer hold a scalpel."

Chapter 1
Three years later, I saw James again at the earthquake relief site. Half of his body was trapped under the rubble, and my girlfriend, Sophia, was crying beside him. This was the scene that greeted me. My heart felt like a stone was pressing down on it, blocked and uncomfortable. I felt like a clown. I didn't expect Sophia to call me here to save her first love. With the duty of a doctor to save lives and heal the wounded, I temporarily set aside the knot in my heart and decided to save him. Seeing me approaching, Sophia hurriedly wiped her tears, grabbed my hand, and pleaded with hopeful eyes. "Benjamin, please save James. He's been trapped for hours." I had never seen her so worried and nervous in the three years we'd been together. Suppressing the strange emotions, I began the rescue. The steel bars in the ruins were piled up in a mess. I carefully moved the stone slab pressing on James' arm and heard him cry out in pain. The next second, Sophia pushed me away forcefully. "Who saves people like that? Are you trying to kill him on purpose?" I fell to the ground, my arm scratched by the sharp steel bars, blood gushing out, but the pain in my arm was far less intense than the ache in my heart. Seeing that her heart and eyes were focused entirely on James made me feel ridiculous. Earlier, even when I drank to the point of being hospitalized for gastric lavage because of social events, she would only say, "It's okay." But now? Before I could react, James gave me a weak smile. "It's okay. Benjamin probably didn't mean it. I'm really grateful that you are willing to help me." "James, don't say that." Watching the two of them, so lovey-dovey and ready to live and die together, I stepped forward with a cold face and simply bandaged his exposed wounds. Soon, the rescue team arrived to help. James was carried on a stretcher, and Sophia actually wanted to follow him reluctantly. I grabbed her and tried to stay calm. "There are doctors over there to take care of him. You can't help even if you go." But she wouldn't listen. "At a time like this, can't you focus on the bigger picture?" "He is an engineer. He was injured while saving people. Shouldn't we care about him? You are a doctor. Can you not be so selfish?" After saying that, she ran after the medical team without even sparing me a glance. I opened my mouth, my heart full of bitterness. "Sophia." Just as I was about to chase after her, the ground beneath my feet suddenly began to shake. The aftershocks came! The house next to me collapsed for the second time. With a bang, I only felt a pain in my shoulder, and then I lost consciousness. I woke up to pain. It was pitch black before my eyes. I tried to move my body, but a heart-wrenching pain shot through my right hand as soon as I attempted to move it. My heart skipped a beat. How important was the right hand to a doctor? If I could never hold a scalpel again because of this, my life would be truly ruined. In a panic, I saw the phone that had fallen not far away, and it felt like a glimmer of hope. Sophia shouldn't have gone far! If I was rescued in time, my hand could be cured! I gritted my teeth, leaned forward with difficulty in the cramped space, and tried to reach for the only hope with my left hand. After that, ignoring the tearing pain in my right hand, I grabbed my phone and hurriedly called Sophia. As I listened to the busy tone, I subconsciously held my breath, my fingers trembling unconsciously. I didn't even have time to care about the sweat dripping from my forehead into my eyes. At the last second of the automatic hang-up, the call connected. "Sophia, I'm trapped under the rubble where I was just now. Come and save me." "Are you okay? Hold on a little longer. I'll find someone to come over right away." My heart, which had been hanging by a thread, finally settled. Hot tears blurred my vision, and my voice trembled with excitement. "Okay, I'll wait for you!" Just as I was about to say a few more words to her and shift the pain, she hung up the phone. I let out a long sigh of relief, my tense nerves instantly relaxed, and I looked around at the situation in the dark ruins. I tried to move the fingers of my right hand again, but the piercing pain came again. I took a deep breath to calm myself down. "Hold on a little longer. Sophia will be here soon!" But five minutes turned into ten, then into half an hour...
