The Beginning
The night the sun disappeared, Kael was the weakest boy in the kingdom.
He lived in a small village at the edge of the Blackwood Forest, a place where the trees were so old that people said they remembered the birth of the world. Beyond the forest stood the great kingdoms of Eldoria, protected by powerful warriors who could control fire, lightning, wind, earth, and even shadows. Every child in Eldoria was tested for magical power when they turned sixteen.
Kael had failed the test three times.
He could not create fire. He could not move a stone. He could not even light the smallest magical crystal. The village children laughed whenever they saw him carrying water or cutting wood for his mother.
They called him powerless.
Kael hated that word, but he had slowly begun to believe it.
His father had disappeared when Kael was six years old. Some said he had been killed by monsters beyond the northern mountains. Others whispered that he had once been a soldier of the royal army and had discovered something that the king wanted to keep hidden.
Kael never knew the truth.
His only family was his mother, who always told him that being weak did not mean being useless.
On the night everything changed, Kael was walking home through the forest when the sky suddenly became silent.
The birds stopped singing.
The wind stopped moving.
Even the insects became quiet.
Kael looked upward.
The full moon was turning black.
Then a second shadow appeared behind the moon, spreading across the sky like dark ink.
A huge black circle covered the stars.
The Eclipse had arrived.
But it was not a normal eclipse.
A terrible voice rolled across the world.
The Empire has awakened.
Kael fell to his knees.
Far away, mountains cracked open. Black flames rose from the ground. Across the kingdom, ancient towers began to glow with red symbols that had been sleeping for thousands of years.
Then something fell from the sky.
It struck the forest a short distance from Kael and created a deep crater.
Kael wanted to run, but something inside him forced him forward.
At the bottom of the crater was a black sword.
It was unlike any weapon he had ever seen. The blade looked as if it had been made from darkness itself. Strange silver marks covered its surface.
Kael reached toward it.
The moment his fingers touched the handle, the world disappeared.
He saw a city burning under a black sun.
He saw armies of monsters marching across dead lands.
He saw kings kneeling before a shadow covered throne.
Then he saw a man standing alone in the middle of a ruined world.
The man looked exactly like Kael.
Save them.
The voice whispered inside his mind.
Kael pulled his hand away and collapsed.
When he opened his eyes, the sword was gone.
But a black mark had appeared on his right hand.
He returned to the village as quickly as he could.
The village was burning.
People were running through the streets.
Creatures with long arms and white eyes were attacking houses. Their bodies were covered in black armor that seemed to grow from their skin.
Kael searched for his mother.
He found her near their house.
She was badly injured.
Kael rushed toward her.
Mother.
She looked at him and smiled weakly.
You found it.
Kael froze.
Found what.
His mother grabbed his hand and stared at the black mark.
Your father was right.
Before Kael could ask another question, a monster appeared behind them.
Kael stood between the creature and his mother.
He knew he could not win.
He had never defeated anyone in his life.
The monster raised its claw.
Kael closed his eyes.
Then the black mark on his hand began to glow.
The world became silent again.
A wave of darkness exploded from Kael.
The monster was thrown through three houses.
Kael stared at his own hands.
He could feel something inside him.
Something enormous.
Something hungry.
His mother looked frightened.
Kael, listen carefully.
What is happening to me.
You are not powerless.
His mother struggled to breathe.
The power inside you was sealed when you were a child.
Why.
Because the power comes from the Eclipse.
Kael stepped back.
His mother told him the truth his entire life had been built upon.
His father had not been an ordinary soldier.
He had been one of the Guardians of the Eclipse, warriors created thousands of years ago to stop an ancient ruler called the Eclipse King.
The Eclipse King had once ruled half the world.
He possessed the ability to control darkness itself and had tried to cover the world in eternal night.
The Guardians defeated him.
But they could not destroy him.
They sealed his soul inside the moon.
Every thousand years, the seal weakened.
Tonight, the seal had broken.
And the Eclipse King was returning.
Kael looked toward the black sky.
Then why am I connected to him.
His mother closed her eyes.
Because you are the last Guardian.
Before Kael could understand, the village shook.
A giant creature descended from the sky.
Its body was covered with black wings.
Its eyes burned like red stars.
It spoke one sentence.
The heir has awakened.
Kael felt fear.
For the first time in his life, he also felt something else.
Anger.
He remembered every person who had laughed at him.
Every time he had been called weak.
Every time he had watched powerful warriors protect the kingdom while he stood helpless.
He clenched his fist.
The darkness inside him moved.
The black sword appeared in his hand.
The creature attacked.
Kael raised the sword.
The impact destroyed the ground beneath his feet.
He was thrown backward, but he stood again.
The creature attacked a second time.
Kael moved.
He did not know how he was moving.
His body seemed to understand the battle before his mind did.
He swung the sword.
A black wave cut across the forest.
The creature screamed.
Kael stared at the wound.
He had hurt it.
But the victory lasted only a moment.
The creature regenerated.
It laughed.
You possess the shadow power, but you do not understand it.
Kael tightened his grip.
Then teach me.
The creature attacked again.
Kael fought.
He was thrown into trees.
He was cut.
He fell.
He stood.
He fell again.
He stood again.
Every time he fell, the darkness inside him became stronger.
Finally, Kael stopped fighting the power.
He accepted it.
The black mark spread from his hand to his arm.
His eyes became silver.
A dark flame appeared around his body.
The creature stepped backward.
Impossible.
Kael lifted his sword.
I am done being weak.
He moved faster than the creature could see.
One strike.
The monster split apart.
Its body turned into black dust.
The village became silent.
But Kael knew the battle had only begun.
Before dawn, a group of royal soldiers arrived.
Their leader was a young woman named Serin, a powerful warrior who controlled blue fire.
She looked at the destroyed village and then at Kael.
What happened here.
Kael looked toward the sky.
The Eclipse King has returned.
Serin laughed nervously.
That is an old legend.
Kael raised his hand.
Dark energy moved around his fingers.
Serin stopped smiling.
Legends do not usually leave marks like that.
Kael told her everything his mother had revealed.
Serin listened in silence.
Then she told him something even worse.
The capital had fallen.
The royal army had been defeated.
The king was missing.
Black towers were rising across the continent.
And armies were marching toward every major city.
The world was already being swallowed by darkness.
Kael looked at the burning remains of his village.
His mother had died before the soldiers arrived.
For a long moment, Kael said nothing.
Then he picked up the black sword.
Where is the Eclipse King.
Serin pointed toward the north.
Beyond the mountains.
Inside the ancient Empire of Night.
Kael looked at her.
Take me there.
Serin shook her head.
You cannot defeat him.
Kael looked at his hands.
Maybe not yet.
Those two words changed everything.
Kael and Serin began their journey toward the north.
They crossed ruined villages and forests filled with monsters.
They discovered that the Eclipse King was not simply destroying the world.
He was searching for something.
Ancient stones were being removed from temples.
Old magical gates were being opened.
And every gate carried the same symbol.
A black crown surrounded by seven stars.
Kael began to understand.
The Eclipse King was rebuilding his empire.
But there was another secret.
Inside every gate, Kael could feel a piece of his own power.
The more gates they found, the stronger he became.
At first, Kael could only create darkness.
Then he learned to shape it into weapons.
After several weeks, he learned to move through shadows.
Later, he discovered that he could absorb the power of monsters he defeated.
But every increase in strength came with a price.
The darkness whispered to him.
It promised him greater power.
It showed him visions of revenge.
Sometimes Kael wanted to surrender to it.
But he remembered his mother's final words.
Power does not decide who you are.
Your choices do.
Kael continued forward.
Eventually, they reached the northern mountains.
Beyond them stood the ruins of the Eclipse Empire.
Black castles rose from a dead valley.
Millions of dark creatures guarded the roads.
At the center stood an enormous palace beneath the black sun.
Kael looked at it from the mountain.
That is where he is.
Serin nodded.
Kael stepped forward.
The ground shook.
A voice echoed across the valley.
Kael.
He froze.
The voice was coming from the palace.
Come home.
Kael looked up.
A figure appeared above the castle.
The Eclipse King.
He wore black armor and a crown made of dark crystal.
But his face was hidden beneath a silver mask.
Kael raised his sword.
I am not your son.
The Eclipse King laughed.
No.
You are something far more dangerous.
The mask cracked.
And Kael saw the face beneath it.
His heart stopped.
It was his father.
Kael could not move.
His father stared down at him.
I have been waiting for you.
The black sky turned red.
The seven ancient gates opened.
A wave of darkness spread across the world.
Kael understood the truth.
His father had not disappeared.
He had become the vessel of the Eclipse King.
And now the ancient ruler wanted Kael to become the next vessel.
Kael raised his sword.
His hands were shaking.
His father called to him.
You cannot save this world.
Kael looked at the burning horizon.
Then he looked at Serin.
He remembered his mother.
He remembered his village.
He remembered the boy everyone had called powerless.
For the first time, Kael smiled.
Maybe I cannot save the world alone.
He raised the black sword toward the sky.
But I will become strong enough to try.
The darkness around him exploded.
Across the world, people looked toward the northern sky and saw a strange silver light breaking through the black clouds.
The war had begun.
And the weakest boy in Eldoria was about to become the greatest enemy the Empire of the Eclipse had ever known.
