Rumi
"They say that those who love beyond the world cannot be separated by it, for death is no more than a turning of us over from time to eternity, they say that death cannot kill what never dies and I believe them for I have seen and felt what death cannot kill and his name is Devin." My room was filled with a blinding light as I woke up. I get up at 8:00 a.m. and head down stairs to eat breakfast with my parents. I complete my chores, which primarily consist of washing my own plate, cleaning my room, and playing with my sister, who is deaf since she was born. Welcome to my normal life. My mother adopted my sister from the orphanage where she grew up. Her name is Reya, and she's five years old. She's the nicest little thing, she always wears pigtails and has this adorable little Jumper jeans ruffles dress that she wears a lot and she's just like my mother, very delicate, sweet and wacky. I do my morning workout routine and now I'm preparing for the first day of my Sophomore year in college. "Rumi, did you do your chores?" my mother yelled. "Yes ma, I'm good. I'll see you after class," I hopped on my bike and rode it towards my university, which was only 30 minutes away from my house. I stepped into the University of SanFord, which was enormous. And all I can say is that it was all I had hoped for. My father wanted me to become a businessman, so I went to college and got Accountancy as a course. Which I don't mind because I have no idea what course I'll be taking. Although I have to say I wanna be an artist just like my mom. My mom, you see, is an artist, though she isn't well-known, she prefers to stay anonymous. I admire her passion, which is reflected in her work. It's also amusing since she named me Rumi after her favorite poet, who went by the screen name Rumi. I was walking down the hall towards my assigned room for the day when I ran into someone. "Oh, I'm so sorry!" I overheard the other person giggling. "No, it's fine, I'm just clumsy." When I looked at the person, I saw that she was a girl. She was a little shorter than me, and she was dressed in a cute summer dress. "Hello, my name is Rumi, and you are?" I gave her a friendly smile. She appeared to be friendly as well, so I think I'd like to be friends with her. "My name is Barbara, but you can call me Barb," She then flipped her hair and winked at me. I'm not sure if she was flirting with me or just friendly, but okay? That made me giggle. As you can see, I'm not very good with people and I’m a very socially awkward person. "So, where are you headed?" she asked. "Oh, my classroom is actually here, yours?" She squealed with delight. "Omg..same!" Oh cool, I might make a new friend here. We went inside and sat next to each other. "So, What made you want to pursue a career in Accountancy?" she asked. I sighed as I looked at her. "Someday, my father wants me to become a businessman and own a business," She then gave a nod of her head. "So, do you want to be a businessman? or were you pressured?" She looked at me with curiosity. "I mean, I wasn't forced to do it. I didn't know what I wanted to be when I was younger. Until I realized I'd always wished to be like my mother," She then motioned for me to continue with my story. "I guess I didn't have the courage to tell my father. I don't want to let him down," She gave me a sympathetic look. Our conversation was then cut short when the professor entered the room and began the class. After class, It was now time for my lunch break. Barb and I went our separate ways. And I went about my business as usual. Honestly, I'm a pretty dull person. As you can see, I have nothing notable to brag about in my life. In my spare time, I enjoy swimming and riding my bike. I also go to A New Chapter, which is a public library that I adore. Speaking of the library, I need to return some books that I borrowed last week. I gathered my belongings, hopped on my bike, and went to A New Chapter. I walked into the library and saw a woman in her fifties who wore glasses, a long pencil skirt, a high-necked blouse, and her hair that was pulled back in a bun. "Hello, Jodie! I have a book to return. How is your family doing?" I stated. "Same old. How is your younger sister doing?" She questioned. "She's already in kindergarten and attends Heavenly Oaks School for the Deaf," I said. "Oh my goodness that's wonderful news! Is she making any new friends?" She asked. "I don't know, she's a little shy, but I think she'll grow out of it," I said. "Okay, then. Are you planning on borrowing another book?" she inquired. "Actually, yes. I'll go upstairs and find some new books to read, and I'll see you in a bit," I stated. "All right, bookworm," I chuckled at that. I enjoy reading a variety of books, including Supernatural, Historical, Romantic, and Mystery. You name it, I read every one of them. That's probably why Jodie thinks I'm a bookworm. Well that makes sense. I go upstairs to look for a new book to read. As I was about to grab a book I couldn't help but notice someone staring at me. I looked ahead and noticed a man who was quite tall, had thickly lustrous black hair and had pale skin. He was dressed in a white buttoned-up long-sleeve shirt, black pants, and black leather shoes. His entire demeanor exudes class and power. His chocolate brown eyes locked on mine. He then suddenly smiled at me. I didn’t know what to do. Talk about being socially awkward, I quickly averted my gaze and decided to leave. My face became warm all of a sudden. I know I should've smiled back because he was friendly and all, but to be honest, I panicked. He was very attractive, and it didn't help that I'm a very awkward person. Damn, he probably thought I was being rude. However, what's done is done. "Hey Jodie, I think I'll go now," she stared at me with a hint of confusion on her face "Oh, aren't you going to borrow a book?" she questioned. "No thanks, I'll borrow one next time. Goodbye, Jodie," I got back on my bike and rode back to university, where I finished all of my classes. I also saw Barb for a while and we said our goodbyes. After that, I hopped on my bike again and went straight home. My family and I live in a simple neighborhood. Everyone in this town knows everybody else. A part of me wishes I could leave here and go somewhere else. I know it sounds cliché, but there is something thrilling about the unknown. I'd like to go out there. I hope to do so someday. I dismounted my bike and entered the house. "I'm Home!" I exclaimed. Mom smiled as she greeted me. My mom looks very young for someone in their fifties. She also has long jet black wavy hair and dresses in vintage boho styles. "How was your day, Rumi?" she asked. She gave me a side hug. "It was fantastic. I went to the library and took a look around." I stated. "That's good. Would you mind helping me set up for dinner if you aren't too busy?" she asked. "All right, ma." I assisted in setting the dinner table. And we all ate dinner together as a family. "How did work go, honey?" Mom asked. Dad also appeared to be in good shape for his age. He stood around 182 cm tall. And he had an intimidating demeanor that I didn't inherit, but deep down he's such a papa bear you'd want to hug all the time. "Nothing new, love; work is fine, though I have to say my body is getting weaker; I guess it's aging." Dad laughed. "Or perhaps it's because you've been working too hard. Maybe you should get some rest." She expressed her concern. "You are overly concerned." Dad laughed. "Of course I'm concerned about you, stupid." Mom stated. "Don't worry, I'm still strong, and you're as beautiful as ever." Dad smiles cheesily. "Oh, please stop!" Mom is flushed. They continued bickering in this manner. When I looked at them, I couldn't help but smile. Even my younger sister looks like she’s enjoying her meal. Someday, I hope to have a love like my parents. After eating dinner with my family. I helped with the dishwashing. I showered and went straight to bed. Today was a good day. Just like any other normal day that I have. But there was something a little different about today. I closed my eyes and tried to sleep, but I couldn't. I can't stop thinking about that handsome guy at the library. "Why did he have to smile at me like that? I couldn't sleep anymore. It's truly confusing," I mumbled to myself. The problem is that I've never had a crush on anyone. Yes, you may think I'm crazy or whatever, but I've never had a crush before, so seeing that guy and him suddenly making my heart flutter by just looking at me was strange. Why do I even like him? He didn't even say anything. He just smiled at me. I've never met him. This is so infuriating! This isn't something I'm used to. Is this even normal? "You know Rumi, you might not even see this guy again, so don't start crushing on him and just go to sleep," I grumbled to myself. That night, I wanted to dream about the brown-eyed beauty. "It's strange how fate works; who knew this handsome stranger would become such an important part of my simple life?"
