Chapter Fifteen

2255 Words
Aaliyah It is now the beginning of our Thanksgiving week break. Aunt Louwanna, Uncle Money, and them damn cousins of ours is coming through pretty soon.  They're suppose to come through tomorrow. They also said that they are bring an extra guest as well. I was just wondering where the hell was that person is going to sleep. It's bad enough that I have to share my room with one person, I don't want to share it with another. Dad is downstairs in his man cave doing his own thing while me and mom are chopping up vegetables in the kitchen. Before she wanted me to help her, I was in the living room snacking on a bag of chips and drinking a bottle of water. "Mom, I don't understand why they have to come down here for Thanksgiving! Knowing that you don't like Aunt Louwanna, as much as I don't like her daughter." I complained to her. My mother huffed and put the knife down, "Look honey, I know we tend to have our differences, but at the end of the day we are family, alright. Your uncle is still my brother regardless. Even though I dislike his wife. " She scoffed. "But at the end of the day, you have to respect your elders you hear me?" "Alright, I'll respect Uncle Money and his wife because he is my favorite Uncle, but I can't promise you with his kids. " I said truthfully. I just can't wait for them to leave. I got a feeling that their presence will make me barf as if for them to show up. "Aaliyah, I know you and DJ have your problems with your cousins, but BEHAVE while they are here!" My mother begged as she was putting the chopped celery in the container and placing it in the fridge. "Alright fine, but mom, if your niece tries it with me you can ground me for all eternity." I huffed out and made a deal with her. My mother chuckled and nodded her head with agreement. I finished chopping up the red bell peppers and moved on to the green onions.  "So mom, what are you making this year?" I asked her as I was chopping the vegetables. "Dressing with Giblet Gravy, Baked Macaroni 'n' Cheese, Callard Green Casserole, Chitterlings..."I scrunched my nose and eyebrows.  "Chitterlings?!" I asked in disgust. "Yes Chitterlings! Your father, Uncle, and I happens to like that." My mother said sternly. "...and Turkey. And for dessert, I'm making peach cobbler and sweet potato pie." I smiled big when my mom said what she is making for dessert. She had me when she said peach cobbler. I don't really care too much for the sweet potato pie. "I knew that would get you smiling from cheek to cheek." My mother noticed. "You know me so well mom." We both laughed and continued to do what we were doing. I finished chopping up the green onions and asked my mom if there is anything else she wants me to do. "No baby that's it for today." "A'ight." I said to her and made my way to my room. I plotted down on my bed and watched some YouTube videos on my phone.  I was in the mood to watch The Little Mermaid. Don't judge me I still watch Disney movies. I would like to relive some of my childhood moments. So, when to the Disney+ app on my and went to the movie to watch it. I laying on my bed enjoying the movie on my phone, until I got interrupted with someone calling me. It so happens to be Gavin. I got agitated, but I decided to answer it anyway. "Hello." I said lazily. "What's up? You sound like you don't wanna talk or something?" he said through the receiver. I raised myself up from my bed and rubbed my face. "It's alright, I wasn't doing nothing but enjoying a movie." "What were you watching?" "The Little Mermaid." "That's some s**t my sister would watch!" He sucked his teeth, "whatchu doing looking at a kids movie?" "Hey, don't judge me now!" I said to him sternly. "I still be in my moments watching Disney movies. Don't do my like that."  He laughed through the phone and I chuckled right along with him. "Girl I can't deal with you." "Well, deal with me." I snickered. "So, what are doing ?" I asked him. "I'm just at home chilling, talking to you. I had a long day today and I'd figured hearing your voice would help me relax, and I'm right, I'm more relaxed." I smiled at his remark. "Aww well, I'm glad that I could help a bit."  "Nah, you helped a lot girl. What is you talking about?" He chortled. "Whatever. So, what did you do today if you don't mind me asking?" He went silent for a moment, but he finally answered. "Something I do everyday to stay afloat. Running my business, making sure my money is right, checking how everything is going at my new club before opening night. Speaking of that, are you willing to roll with me or what?" He asked me. "I don't know dude, I haven't been feeling well lately. When is it?" "This Saturday." He said bluntly. "Well, like I've said Gavin, I'm not to sure at the moment. I haven't been feeling to well and I got family coming down here for Thanksgiving as well." I revolted. He must have caught on to me because I heard laughing over the phone. "What's up with that? Sounds to me you don't like your fam or something." He honestly said it right on the nose. "Look, me and my brother, DJ, don't associate with most of them that's all. We both mind our own business, but it's like they want to push our buttons all at the same time. So, we mostly get into fights with some of them bitches, and when I say bitches; I mean our male cousins too." "Okay, I see you trying to thug out." I chuckled at him. "Well hell, I'm just not the one to f**k with. Like for instance, last week me and my friend was trying to get to class right? And we accidentally bumped into these bitches called Mariah and LaToya. I was going to apologize but they was acting like s**t, so they weren't getting s**t, not from me at least." "What they do?" I heard him getting pissed through the phone. "Oh, the typical mean girl s**t. I'm not to bothered about it though." I waved my hand and rolled my eyes like he could see me. "If my friend Sasha wasn't there... " I blew air out of my mouth while shaking my head side to side. "I would have gotten my ass suspended or something. I honestly can't stand that hoe!" "Glad she there to stop you. Cause if she wasn't, I would have..." I sucked my teeth at him. "n***o the f**k are you going to do?" I cut him off. He didn't answer for a full two seconds. "You'll find our when you see me. You'll learn not to cut me off the next time we talk." I can tell that he was smirking through the phone. I couldn't help but to blush over what he said. I knew he said that in a joking manner, but at the same I could tell that he's serious. "Gavin!" I blushed when I said his name. "Nah, nah, no! Don't do that blushing s**t on me. Wait 'til you see me!" I was feeling so flushed that I felt like my cheeks were going to hurt me. "Whatever Gavin!" "A'ight...bet." I just snickered at him. It was a short pause before he started it back up again. "So, whatchu wearing gorgeous?" I rolled my eyes at his inappropriate question. "Dude really?" "Yeah really." He mimicked me. "Now answer my question." "Just a tank top, some shorts, and long socks. What about you?" I asked him in return. "Some basketball shorts and long socks." "Wow, look at us! we're almost matching!" I cheesed. "Yeah almost, if you would take that shirt off we would be matching." I chuckled at his remark. "You are so nasty!" I smirked at him. "Well, I mean you should know." He said referring to what happened on his birthday. "Boy stop!" I whined. "You know damn well I'm not a boy." He sucked his teeth. "You must need a reminder or something." "Nope! I'm good on that right now." He laughed hysterically. I started to yawn because I beginning to feel very sleepy. "I must be boring you know since you're yawning?" "No, no, its not that, I'm just tired that's all. It's crazy though, cause I have never been this tired before."   "Oh really?" He asked with concern. "Yeah! I don't know why though? It's weird." "Oh well... I'll let you go and get your rest then. I have another long day tomorrow anyway." "Okay, don't work to hard now." I teased him. "I'll be straight. You just don't try to get into fights and shit." I sucked my teeth. "Man, I'mma do what I want to do." "I want to see you try it with me." He challenged me and honestly, I'm not up for it. "You know what Gavin, bye. I'm done with you for now. Goodnight." "Goodnight Aaliyah." I removed the phone from my ear and tapped the end icon. Then I resumed back watching The Little Mermaid until I fell asleep.  | | | | | It is now the next day and me, mom, and dad were cleaning up the house for my mother's older brother and his family to come by. To be honest, I was in no mood to clean up for them. It's not because of my hatred for my cousins, it's because I don't have the energy to do anything. However, I pushed myself to clean up some here and there. That way I won't hear my mother's mouth if I didn't do anything. Soon we heard the doorbell ring. That means that my shitty ass cousins are here.  I can  hear my mother cheering with excitement that her brother is here. I hear my Aunt and Uncle have a conversation with my parents. "Aaliyah! Come down here and say hi to your Aunt and Uncle." "Here we go." I mumbled to myself. I made my way downstairs and put on a fake smile. "Hey Uncle Money!" I greeted him with a big hug. I don't know if I mentioned it or not, but the reason why we call him "Money" is because it was a nickname he grew up with. His real name is actually Mitchell.  "Hey sweetheart!" "Hi Aunt Louwanna." "Hi Aaliyah." I gave her a quick hug and retracted myself away from her. "So, where is my niece and nephew?" My mother asked Uncle Money. Soon as she said that, we heard the door open and close. Soon we saw Jasmine turn the corner to reveal herself. She plastered a big smile and made her way to hug my parents. "Hey Auntie Vett! Hey Uncle Shawn!" "Hi Jasmine." My parents said in unison. "How is school coming along?" My mom asked her. "Studies are going great!" She said all cheerful and s**t.  "That's nice to hear Jasmine." My dad replied. "Liyah, you say hi to your cousin Jasmine?" My mother inquired. I mentally rolled my eyes and just waved at her. I then resumed going through my phone as Gavin was texting me all of sudden. Then, I instantly felt someone's presence towering behind me. "Oh, who you texting?" My cousin, Rayshawn, asked over my shoulder. "Boy move!!" I pushed him away. "All up in my business and everything!!" All he did was snickered at me s**t. He is so f*****g irritating. "But for real through, who you texting?" He grinned while asked me again. This fucker even have the nerve to attempt to take my phone from me, but I snatched it way in time. "It's none of your damn business nigga s**t!!" I hissed at him. "So damn annoying." I murmured the last sentence. "Aaliyah!" My mother gave me a warning look. I held my hand up in surrender because her gazes are scary as s**t. "Rayshawn leave your cousin alone! Let her mind her business son!!" My Uncle said to him sternly. "Dad I was just messing with her. She knows that. Right, Liyah?" He tried to give me a hug. "Bruh get off me!" I pushed him away from me. "We ain't close!" Rayshawn sucked his teeth, "Come on Aaliyah don't be like that!" He smirked pushing my cheeks together and moving my face side to side. I slapped him on his wrist to make him let go of me. All he did was stand there laughing in my face. "Man shut up!" I told him as I pushed him away, hopefully, for the finale time. "Anyway, um... I thought you guys said that y'all brought an extra guest along?" My mom asked. "Yeah, she in the bathroom right now." Rayshawn explained to us. As soon as he said that. A pregnant girl came out from the corner of the foyer. As soon as I looked up from my phone and saw who it was, I was flabbergasted as to who it is. "Elena?!" Me, my mom, and my dad said in unison.
