AN OLD MAN , HIS SON AND A DONKEY
An old man, his son and a donkey. Once a father and his son were going to the market with their donkey. When he passed by some people standing at a place in the market, everyone, including children, started laughing. One person said: “What is the benefit of carrying this donkey without any load?” Hey, why don't one of you two sit on it." "Oh yes !" The old man said: “You are right.” We had not thought about it before.” Saying this, the old man placed his younger son on the donkey and started his journey. After some time, when he passed by a village, some villagers started laughing after seeing him. They started saying among themselves: “Hey! Look at this. This idle boy is sitting comfortably on the donkey and the old father is walking behind him. O unruly boy, get down and make your father sit on the donkey.” The old man got scared after hearing the words of those villagers and took his son off the donkey and sat on the donkey himself. Now they had gone a little further when some women standing at the bank of a well shouted: “Hey! Look at this useless old man. What kind of fun is he himself sitting on a donkey and making the child run on foot? How the poor guy is panting. Oh join in, don't feel ashamed. He himself is sitting on a donkey. Why don't you also make the child sit on the donkey? Hearing this, the old man made the child sit behind him on the donkey and moved ahead. The old man thought, 'Well, now at least no one will interrupt.' But his thinking was wrong. They had just gone a hundred yards ahead when a man standing on the highway stopped them and said: “Excuse me, sir!” Is this donkey yours?” ‘Yes, it is mine!’ The old man said. “Who could have imagined that you people would put so much burden on this poor donkey!” Saying this the person moved ahead laughing. Now Badha started muttering in anger: 'I don't understand what to do. If a donkey is not loaded, people stare at him. If one of us travels sitting on a donkey, we curse the person sitting on it. Even if we, father and son, sit on a donkey, people still make fun of us. Aa stood there thinking for a while and then he decided to do something that no one else had done. He tied all four legs of the donkey together with a rope and hung the donkey upside down on a bamboo pole. Now the old man placed one end of the bamboo on his shoulder and the other on the boy's shoulder and both of them walked towards the market. To reach the market one had to cross a bridge over the river. Seeing the donkey hanging on the pole, the whole town gathered. Everyone was laughing, shouting, clapping. What a sight it was. Two people were carrying a good, healthy donkey on their shoulders by hanging it on a pole. What should have happened was that both of them would have traveled riding on a donkey. Hearing the crowd and shouting of people, the donkey started beating its hands and legs badly. Suddenly the rope tied to the donkey's legs broke and he fell from the bridge into the river and died after struggling for a while. The old man looked once into the river. The donkey was dead. He picked up the boy in his lap and walked towards home with fast steps. He was very sad, but he had not done anything stupid. He tried his best to please everyone, but he could not please even a single one. On the contrary, he had to lose his donkey also. To reach the market one had to cross a bridge over the river.
