Adrian’s POV
The vineyard was bathed in a golden glow from the late afternoon light, but Adrian's mind was anything from calm. His thoughts were still plagued by the broken window from the previous evening. The uneasiness stuck to him like a second skin even after he had spent hours watching surveillance video and requesting favors to strengthen the estate's defenses.
Lily's upbeat conversation was the only thing that broke the tense stillness, since Elena had been more reserved than normal throughout the day. During their nighttime ritual, he had seen the stress in Elena's eyes and the way she hugged Lily just a little too firmly. Beyond the menace hovering above them, something seemed wrong.
