The warm light of candles and the faint murmur of conversation filled the spacious dining hall. As Lily's birthday party progressed, the estate seemed to be alive and bubbling with warmth for the first time. Adrian had gone all out; a towering cake lay in the middle of the large table, which was covered in elaborate flower arrangements, and the air smelled of vanilla and lavender.
