With sunshine pouring through the kitchen windows and the soothing sound of the espresso maker, the morning began like any other. Elena was talking to Lily, who was sitting on a stool and sketching on a sketchpad, while she stood by the bar with her hair loosely pulled back and a gentle grin pulling at her lips.
It was one of those rare, peaceful mornings when everything seemed to be in harmony. But for no apparent reason, a knot of uneasiness had taken root in my chest.
