The wine incident
---
The bass at the Kempinski rooftop was loud, but not louder than my heart.
I was holding two glasses of expensive red wine, trying to get to my friend Ama. That's when he stepped in front of me - tall, dark, expensive suit, smelling like money and pride.
"Excuse me, beautiful. You shouldn't be serving, you should be sitting with me," he said, grabbing my wrist.
I had been working 12 hours in my small shop in Osu that day. My rent was due. I was tired.
"I am not a waitress. I am a fashion designer," I snapped.
He laughed. "In that cheap dress? Come, let me buy you a real one."
That was it. The whole glass of wine landed on his white shirt.
Silence. Everyone stared.
He looked down at his stained shirt, then up at me, and smiled in a way that scared me. "You will pay for this. I will remember your face, Osu girl."
I ran.
Three days later, I saw his face again. On a Forbes Africa cover in the salon. JASON OBIRI - Ghana's Youngest Billionaire, CEO of Obiri Group.
And now, I have an interview at his company in 2 hours. For the secretary job I don't want but desperately need.
God, why?
