CHAPTER FIFTY-EIGHT There's nothing harder in this world than waiting, and it's twice as hard when your career is hanging in the balance. In some ways, it seems that the big old hands on the clock are racing by; then, on the other hand, it seems they hardly move. I call Blondie to tell her that we have a line on Bobby Mason, but no one is home. I try her mother and there’s no answer. In desperation, I call the lady who lives next door to her mother and hit the jackpot. She tells me that Blondie and the kids stopped by after church and that she picked up her mother and they were going to a movie.
