The man who Rules the World

831 Words
The Stone Mansion had never felt so silent. Inside the massive study, Adrian Stone stood beside the tall windows overlooking the dark city. From this height, he could see almost everything. The glowing skyline. The endless stretch of lights. And somewhere out there in the darkness… His daughter. Adrian’s expression was carved from stone. A guard stepped cautiously into the room. “Sir.” Adrian didn’t turn. “Report.” “The search teams are still combing the south forest, but the Chains arrived before we secured the area.” At that, Adrian slowly turned around. His sharp gray eyes made the guard lower his gaze instantly. “Victor Chain showed his face tonight?” Adrian asked quietly. “Yes, sir.”. A dangerous silence filled the room. Adrian walked back toward his desk, his movements slow and controlled. For thirty years, the Stone and Chain families had ruled the city like rival kings. They owned businesses, banks, entire districts. Their influence ran through politics, police, and power itself. But one rule had always remained clear. Neither side touched the other’s blood. Until tonight. Adrian placed both hands on the desk. “And my daughter?” The guard hesitated. “We… lost sight of her during the firefight.” The temperature in the room seemed to drop. “Lost sight of her,” Adrian repeated softly. “Yes, sir.” Adrian closed his eyes briefly. Not in grief. In calculation. When he opened them again, they were colder than steel. “Lock down the city.” The guard looked up in shock. “Sir… the entire city?” “No one leaves.” Adrian’s voice was calm, but absolute. “Not by plane. Not by train. Not by road.” The guard swallowed. “That will attract attention.” Adrian’s gaze turned deadly. “Then let them pay attention.” His daughter had chosen to run away with the son of his greatest enemy. But Amanda Stone was still his blood. And Adrian Stone did not lose what belonged to him. “Send word to every district,” he continued. “I want eyes everywhere.” “Yes, sir.” The guard hurried out of the room. Adrian remained standing there in silence. Then another voice spoke from the doorway. “You’re starting a war.” Adrian turned slightly. A tall man leaned casually against the doorframe. Daniel Stone. His eldest son. Amanda’s brother. Unlike Adrian, Daniel looked completely calm. Almost amused. “You always were dramatic, Father,” Daniel added. Adrian studied him. “You think this is unnecessary?” Daniel shrugged. “Two kids run away together and suddenly the city is under lockdown?” His eyes glinted. “You’re giving Victor exactly what he wants.” Adrian walked slowly toward him. “Victor already made his move tonight.” Daniel crossed his arms. “And?” Adrian stopped in front of him. “And no one moves against the Stone family without consequences.” For a moment, neither man spoke. Then Daniel smiled faintly. “You’re worried about Amanda.” Adrian didn’t answer. But the silence was answer enough. Daniel sighed. “She’ll come back eventually.” “Not if Victor gets to her first.” That wiped the amusement from Daniel’s face. “He wouldn’t dare.” Adrian’s expression darkened. “Victor Chain has always dared.” Across the city… Far beyond the reach of the Stone estate… Amanda clung to Ben’s shoulders as he carried her through the forest. Her ankle throbbed painfully with every step. “Ben… put me down,” she whispered. “No.” “You’re going to exhaust yourself.” “I’ll manage.” His breathing was steady, but Amanda could feel the tension in his body. Behind them, the sounds of gunfire had finally faded. But the silence that replaced it felt even more dangerous. Marcus appeared beside them again. “There’s a road up ahead,” he said quietly. “Good,” Ben replied. Amanda lifted her head. Through the trees, she could see faint headlights moving along a distant road. Relief flooded her chest. “We made it.” But Marcus suddenly stopped walking. Ben slowed. “What is it?” Amanda asked. Marcus didn’t answer. He was staring at something ahead. Ben followed his gaze. And then Amanda saw it too. Several black vehicles were parked across the road. Engines running. Men standing beside them. Chain soldiers. Waiting. Marcus cursed under his breath. “They got here first. ” Amanda’s heart dropped. Ben slowly set her down. The Chain soldiers began walking toward them. At the center of the group stood Victor Chain. His silver hair gleamed under the headlights. He looked completely relaxed. As if he had been expecting them. Victor smiled. “Hello again.” Amanda felt a chill crawl down her spine. Because this time… Victor wasn’t looking at her. He was looking at Ben. And the smile on his face looked almost… proud.
