A soft smile spread across Jack's lips. "Welcome to our institute, Miss Bourn!" He said casually. "Please hand me your official transfer documents from your previous school. And do take your seats."
"Of course. Here you go, sir." Genova mouthed and quickly trotted forward to hand him her papers before crouching on the seat next to her aunt across from Jack.
Silence reigned inside the vast office subsequently.
Eva also remained silent. Her posture was now relaxed as she awaited the fellow's comment while Genova felt slightly anxious.
Until they arrived at the school premises a couple of minutes ago, Genova firmly believed her grades were good enough to get admitted into (BRASVIAN INSTITUTE). However, seeing the college's high-quality standards firsthand, she couldn't ignore the insecurity that suddenly enveloped her.
The establishment she attended back home in Roseville always praised her talent, and she never failed any of her exams. But [ROSEVILLE ACADEMICS and BRASVIAN INSTITUTE] were two different establishments.
One was conspicuously inferior to the other.
Then again, quality isn't determined by how extravagant the product looks! So the poor girl could only sit and wait for her future to be decided.
Jack went through Genova's file without another word, his focus solely on the report in his hands.
After a couple more seconds that felt like a lifetime went by, Jack finally lifted his head to look at the girl whose record had his lips curved up ever so slightly.
He stared at Genova as though he could see through her soul, making the latter curl back into her seat on reflex.
His peer was too intent that she wished nothing else than to disappear from his sight that instant.
Jack's grin broadened, seemingly enjoying watching her squirm under his gaze. "I must admit that I am amazed by your record, Miss Bourn!" He commented with a light chuckle.
Genova gulped down a mouthful of air. She felt utterly inferior before him - like a mere fly was worth more than her. "T-thank you, sir!" She said, almost stuttering.
Eva held back her laughter. Of course, she was aware that her dear niece was barely holding herself in from cowering away from there or making herself invisible if she could. Pushing her seat back, "Since you are in safe hands with Jack, I will take my leave now," she announced.
Genova literally felt her heart was about to stop beating the instant.
'No, no, no. Please don't leave me here all alone.' She screamed inwardly while stretching forth her hand to grab Eva. However, her hand froze midway when she noticed something utterly shocking.
Genova saw Mr. Blacks' eyes suddenly different from what it was just one second ago.
He was staring at Eva.
But that wasn't the problem: the honeyed-colored eyes she saw a brink ago weren't there anymore. His pupils now looked glassy and unfocused as though they were made of the finest glass one could find on the planet.
Genova's sight moved from the nerving Jack to look at her aunt who seemed frozen from taking another step. Additionally, Eva's eyes looked exactly the same as the man before her.
Genova blinked rapidly.
What was going on?
Why did it feel like something was off with these two?
Was she perhaps seeing this wrong?
Could it be that she was merely overwhelmed by Mr. Blacks' presence hence her poor mind was beginning to make things up?
Does his presence make her uncomfortable? Yes, it does!
Genova couldn't say why; she had this strong inkling that this man who happened to be her school dean wasn't ordinary. His aspect was just too overbearing for any typical guy.
But why were their orbs suddenly like this?
Why did they look like they were in some trance, or did time stop for everyone else except her?
's**t! I think I am losing my mind. I should stop reading too many fantasy books,' she scolded herself inwardly.
She was so deep in her ponder that she failed to notice the other two people in the room's focus was now solely on her.
"Gen?"
"Gen?"
Genova snapped out of her reverie when she heard Eva's voice. "Ah, yes. Aunt. Did you say something?"
Eva frowned. "Are you Ok?" She inquired worriedly.
"Ah. Yes. I Am Ok! Never been better!" Genova answered while looking intently at her aunt's iris which seemed to have returned to its usual sky blue.
Her eyes narrowed in absolute confusion. 'Could I have honestly made that up?' she pondered within.
Eva remained silent for a minute before speaking again, "I am leaving now! Remember your interview later! I expect that you will make me proud."
With that, the classy woman picked up her handbag and left the office without looking back.
"Someone will be here to show you around in a minute, Miss Bourne," Jack informed, then his head dipped down as he busied himself with work.
"Noted, sir!"
Genova sat stiffly, waiting for whomever it was to show up so she could disappear from this man's presence.
His stance was too intimidating for her to handle.
And as luck would have it, a slight knock sounded at the door one second before it opened to reveal who it was.
Genova stared in awe at the young girl with the most enchanting eyes she had ever seen. They were of amber color but were sparkling like an electric. Her figure... Oh, that killer figure so visibly attractive behind her body-fitted knee-length gown made Genova wish she were into women.
Was she into women or men? Genova couldn't say because she never had the chance to explore her sexuality.
"Mr. Black. You sent for me?" The girl spoke.
Oh gosh... Even her voice? How can someone say such simple words so elegantly?
Genova couldn't stop fawning over this female.
'Oh, Good lord... I think I am gay! I am definitely gay!' She screamed inwardly. At least that was what she thought until she noticed the two gazes directed at her.
Jack and the new girl were both staring at her in utter amusement that couldn't be missed on their faces.
"I said that out loud, didn't I?"
The young lady chuckled. "The name is Jasmine; pleasure to meet you!" She said, extending her hand to Genova.
"Ge-Genova. Pleased to meet you too." Genova returned the pleasantries and shook hands with Jasmine.
"Miss. Alfred!" Jack called to gather the lady's attention. "This young lady is new to our school. I deduced you were the best candidate to show her around since you have the same timetable."
"Sure thing!" Jasmine agreed without waiting another second.
Returning her gaze to Genova, "Please follow me."
'Let the fun begin.'
