Chapter One: The Shadow of Loss
The city was engulfed in darkness, but the little house felt like the safest place... until that night. Adam and Youssef, the two young brothers, were barely seven, clinging to each other in shock. The gunshots that had struck their parents tore their lives apart, yet they did not separate. They stayed together, holding each other's hands amidst the chaos of blood and debris.
Some neighbors arrived, the police showed up, and everything happened too quickly. The following night, they were taken to a children's shelter. The place was cold, dark, filled with other children screaming and crying. Yet the brothers did not let go immediately. Adam kept holding Youssef's hand, protecting him, trying to calm him down.
Days passed, and the hardships multiplied. The officials at the shelter were strict, the food was scarce, and sleep was interrupted. The other children were not always kind, yet the brothers clung to each other, like a single shadow, trying to hold on to hope together.
Then came the day that changed everything once again. Adam realized that the shelterwould not provide them with protection, and that Youssef would remain in danger.
On a quiet night, he planned a silent escape. He took Youssef to a small corner. The young boy looked into his brother's eyes and whispered softly: "I promise... I won't leave you again. I'll come back for you, no matter what happens. Remember this moment, and you'll know that I live for you."Adam fled through the windows, through the alleys, far from the shelter, leaving behind everything he knew—but keeping the sacred promise in his heart: he would not let his brother suffer, no matter how dark the paths or how great the dangers of life. And so began Adam's journey—a journey filled with streets, gangs, and challenges that would shape him into a leader.
As for Youssef, he remained in the shelter, never forgetting his brother. A sense of mystery and longing would haunt him throughout his life, unaware that the brother who had promised him was now growing up in a dark world, counting the days until their fateful reunion. Adam's escape had turned the shelter into something like a cold prison for little Youssef.
Every day was a new test—of patience, of courage, and of a heart that knew nothing yet of the real world. The other children were not
always kind; some would hit, steal, or mock Youssef because he was alone, without his brother by his side.
The nights were the hardest. Youssef would sleep holding onto the memory of Adam's small hand that had never let go, trying to feel that his brother's promise still lived in his heart. Yet he was truly alone—alone for the first time in his life.
Adam quickly learned that survival demanded intelligence, courage, and boldness far beyond what an ordinary child knew. He stole food, mastered the art of sneaking, and observed those around him—the older kids, the men in the alleys, the small-time gangsters who controlled certain areas.
Every step was a lesson, and every lesson became a cornerstone for what he would one day become: an unstoppable gang leader, yet one who kept the promise to his brother.
Months passed, and Adam grew up in the streets, making friends at times and enemies always. But he never forgot Youssef for a single moment. Every small crime, every risk, every skill he learned had one purpose: to protect his brother in the future and to reclaim the day they had been torn apart.
Meanwhile, Youssef was trying to prove himself in the shelter, learning how to be strong, unaware that Adam's strength outside
was developing at the same pace. Both of them, in different places, were learning life in their own ways: one through justice, the other through crime... yet the blood promise between them remained the invisible bond that could never be broken.
Years passed, and Adam grew up in the streets, learning how to survive, how to observe, and how to protect himself. Every step he took was built upon the memories of the promise he made to his brother:
"I will never let you suffer again... no matter what happens."
But life was not easy. While trying to defend himself during a scuffle with a rival gang, Adam became entangled in an unfortunate incident that led to his wrongful arrest. He had committed no crime intentionally, yet circumstances were against him, and the law offered no mercy. He was sentenced to more than three years in prison, forced to spend his youth in a cold cell, among men tougher than any opponent he had ever faced in the streets.
As for Youssef, who remained in the shelter after Adam's escape, he found refuge in school and education. He studied diligently, building his character on knowledge and discipline, creating a strong foundation for his future—far from violence, far from danger—yet he always carried in his heart a lingering, mysterious sense of having lost his brotherDespite the injustice, Adam did not break. Every moment he spent in prison was dedicated to honing his character, and every thought revolved around the blood promise he had made to himself since childhood: to protect Youssef, no matter the challenges, no matter how dark the paths.
The heavy prison gates closed behind him, and Adam stepped out into the city streets, his heart burdened with anger and resentment after more than three years of injustice. Every step outside was an attempt to breathe freedom, yet it felt heavy and bitter, reminding him of all he had lost and everyone the world had betrayed.
His only goal was nothing but the shelter—the place where his brother Youssef had remained after they were separated. He raced through the old alleys, watching every shadow, every movement, his heart burning with hope and anxiety at once.
As he walked through the dark alleys, a scream echoed behind him. He glanced quickly and saw a group of men attacking Fouad, a man who seemed lost amidst the danger.
Without hesitation, Adam charged forward, relying on the strength and skills he had honed in prison and on the streets. With speed and precision, he fended off the attackers, pushed them away, and freed Fouad from the clutches of danger.
Fouad looked at him with surprise and confusion:
"Adam... you...? I didn't expect to see you here!"
Adam nodded, offering a short, cold smile, tinged with bitterness:
"Sometimes coincidence brings us together, doesn't it?"
Fouad replied lightly:
"Well... at least you're okay. I'm a lawyer, if you ever need any legal help later..."
Adam gave a quick smile, without explaining anything about his brother or anything else, then said:
"I'll think about that... for now, I need to keep moving."
And so, they parted ways, each following his own path.
Adam continued through the alleys, his heart burning with anger and resentment. Every step reminded him of the injustice he had endured, every shadow on the street a reminder that the only power he now possessed was his own. Thus began a new phase for Adam: a phase of building, preparing, and readying himself for a world that spared no one, with the fire of anger driving him forward at every step.
