~ Zephyr ~
I headed to Ms. Kate's office and tapped on her door gently.
She didn’t respond and I knocked the second and the third time.
“Come in." Her voice laced out of the room.
I turned the door knob, pushed it open and stepped in.
The air in the room seemed colder than usual.
She pointed to the couch in her room and I sat down.
“How do I help you?” She asked, placing the book she was reading back on her desk.
“I’m Zephyr ma’m" I explained, shifting the hair strand that fell to my face.
“Zephyr?" She echoed, titling her head to remember.
Does she mean she can’t remember me or she was just pretending not to?
How then did she ask some random guy to come and call me.
“Oh! Zephyr." She exclaimed, " one of the new arrivals.”
" Yes ma’m." I nodded.
“So, what do I owe you?" She asked.
I exhaled slowly before talking.
“I wasn’t at …..”
I was interrupted by the sound of her door creaking open.
We all turned to the door and a guy appeared.
I recognized his face, he was the same exact person that had called me earlier, requesting for my presence in the meeting.
He walked over to Ms. Kate's front desk. “Ma’m, the Alpha wants to see you.” He said then turned to leave.
I watched as Ms. Kate packed the remaining piles of books that were on her desk back into the drawer.
“I will see you when I get back Zephyr." She said in a dismissive tone.
My bad,this was the only chance I would have to tell her this. Seeing her next time might even mean more than a day. And the final decision over Emily might have been made then.
“You can leave, Emilia." She concluded and took her keys, heading towards the door while I followed suit.
I watched her turn her keys and dragged the door handle to ensure it was properly locked before leaving.
I stared at the way that led to our quarters and shook my head. I wasn’t going to go back now. I needed to at least walk around for a while to figure out what the pack really looks like.
I would definitely make sure to avoid getting in contact with any of the guards till I’m done with my search.
I settled out and took the way Ms. Kate walked through that led to the Alpha’s room earlier.
I walked, passing a series of hallways, doors and corridors before stopping when I heard a stern voice speaking.
“What do you mean you can’t find her?" The voice barked.
" I want her found now.” It came again.
I shrieked in fear, the voice was too stern to be a random guard, it came with authority. I stood for a while then recalled where I heard the voice earlier and froze.
I moved closer to the door, to hear more of what they were saying.
“Emiliy was the next person from my registry and she said she was the one, but I don’t actually think it’s her. I really don’t think." Ms. Kate voice explained.
I stepped back and looked at the door one more time. If I could remember, this place isn’t the Alphas place I was pushed in the other night.
But it was clear he was in there and having a conversation with Ms. Kate.
“Then bring her to me, I want to see her now.” he growled.
I wanted to tap on the door and tell them I was the one, but suspended my hands after hearing Ms. Kate's questions.
“If I may ask, dear Alpha. What do you want with her? Sending her back to her pack or what?” Her voice pleaded.
Seconds passed before the Alpha spoke.
“You don’t question me. But if you must know, I’m not sending her back to her pack. I just found out something about her, something very important.” He explained.
I brought down my hand and breathed heavily, thanking my stars I didn’t attempt to knock.
I stepped back and read the inscription on the door.
‘Alpha’s study’
Oh, that was it. Cause I was certain this wasn’t the room I stayed in that night.
“No" I shook my head.
I was going to allow them to find out it was me. His mate.
“Go and find her now. Or get whoever it is that opted to be the one, I want to see her now.”
I stepped back, knowing it was time to leave before I got caught, but my inner self urged me to stay for a while to overhear more.
“What if it isn’t Emily, what then do we do?" Ms. Kate inquired.
Minutes passed, but there was no reply from the Alpha or maybe he answered but I couldn’t hear him.
I turned to leave and made to run when the door cracked open, revealing Ms. Kate who was shocked to see me.
