Another Morning
Sebastian's P.O.V Every morning starts exactly the same hearing Rebecca the woman who birthed me and my sister, yelling at me to 'get the f*ck up before I drag you out of that room'. So I get up, if it's not me getting chewed out, it's Kyla, and considering I love that girl more than words could ever describe. I'd always handle Rebecca's wrath, she never wanted us and she made that clear with the threats, abandonment, and abuse. In short, she was a gold digger, a drunk and a terrible woman. She'd throw men aside like nothing and blame us that she could never get a good man that would stay. I got myself dressed in 3 minutes flat, just the really worn-in shoes, random shirt on the floor, and whatever jeans I grabbed first with my bag swung over one shoulder. Leaving my room and entering the kitchen, I see Kyla crying softly in the corner while 'Mother' was standing on the opposite side of the room, mirror in hand applying lipstick onto that knockoff Italian leather handbag she calls a face. In the shortest dress, she owns currently, I hold my hands out for my mini-me so I can lift her into my arms and pacify her. "I'm going out with that i***t again, I won't be back for a while and if you're not here when his money runs out, it'll be easier for me to move onto the next moneybag" she bluntly states before turning on her heels, walking down the hallway and slamming the door on her way out. Thank goddess, she's gone. It never takes me long to get Ky to stop crying, she's always going to be safe with me. I'll make sure of it. Leading her to her bedroom, I tell her she needs to get dressed for school and I'll be in the kitchen making her lunch, she never seems to eat much but being called fat by her own mother would cause that sort of response. I worked enough to be able to afford a small number of groceries when it was needed, I packed her food and put it in her bag, grabbing us an apple each and her a small cup of milk with a cereal bar. I felt my heart tighten as she walked out of her room with puffy red little eyes, I see her more as my own daughter than a little sister. "Almost ready to go princess?" I asked her as she pulled a little step over to the counter so she could climb onto it. "Mmh, almost. Breakfast first right?" she said softly. I smiled watching her grab the cup of milk and apple, I guess she's saving the bar for later in the day. Soon enough she had finished and wrapped her arms around my neck to indicate she wanted to get down. Picking her up and setting her down, I turned to the counter grabbing my apple and giving her the cereal bar to put in her pocket. I grabbed the front door keys and we were off out the door as soon as she put her bag on. On the way to Ky's school, she was unusually quiet. I didn't push until we got to the gates of her school I knelt to her level and kissed her forehead as I always do. "We'll get out of there someday you will be safe. I promise Kyla, I love you and will do anything to keep you safe. Forever and always." I whispered to her, and she wrapped her arms around my neck and hugged me tightly. "Thank you, I love you too Bas, forever and always." she said back to me. Pulling away I held my pinky out to her, locking them, pressing our thumbs together, and kissing our hands as a way to tell her it was a promise I will never break. She smiled up at me and walked into the building, her teacher looking at me and smiling. She knew the situation we were in and always went out of her way to keep an eye on Kyla. I am forever grateful for that woman, I smiled to myself a little and plugged my earphones into my phone, putting the buds in my ears in my ears before blasting music and wandering to my school for the day. Remembering the apple I shoved into my pocket before I left the house, I took it out, polished it, and bit into it. Probably 5-10 minutes later and I'm taking my last bite and walking into my school grounds. Locating the nearest trash can, I throw the core into the bin and look up. Fan-f*cking-tastic. Do they seriously have to fit the stereotype to the T? Jocks and cheerleaders, more irrelevant characters in my publishing reject of a life. It's almost comical actually, I never escape the torment and abuse, the person delivering it just changes. I'm just going to keep my head down and keep walking, seems like a solid enough plan to me. Crossing the parking lot, Cole, the guy I would probably call my best friend rocks up and nudges me. How do I know it's him? Well for one, the combats are his signature and we came up with a little 'signal' a few years back so we would know who the other is while their head is down so they don't get harassed. The signal was mostly for me since he was the one to get bullied and even if anybody tried, he just wouldn't take it. Not in an aggressive sense, more he would just take it in stride and make a comment back in a light-hearted sense. He was a great guy and I'm glad I know him even if he is my polar opposite. Anyways, I look up and take out my earphones to greet him, he smiles and gives me a little side hug as always as we walk to our lockers. He's rattling on about training for a game of his later on this when he looks up and drifts off a little. I ask him what's up, "Just maybe hurry up a tiny bit so we can get to class, yeah?". "Alright sure", I close my locker and start to slowly walk with Cole to our English class since that was first period, he wrapped his arms around my shoulder and began pushing me to walk faster. This confused me so I looked behind us to see what he was making me rush away from. Right, my eyes just happen to land on Tyler and his twin Chase walking through the hallway, pushing anyone they considered beneath them out of their way.
