1. Behind the High Walls
The morning sun shines brightly casting a golden glow across the glass windows of the towering magnificent building.
In the heart of the city stands the stately residence of the Adhyaksa family a sprawling palace complex surrounded by a five meter high boundary wall. Its iron gates are beautifully carved and guarded tightly by dozens of security personnel in neat uniform.
To the eyes of the public this place stands as a symbol of boundless glory immense wealth and absolute power that inspires envy and admiration in anyone who sees it.
Yet for Geraldo Adhyaksa the twenty eight year old sole heir to this business empire such grandeur feels like nothing more than a cold and lonely gilded cage.
Geraldo sits at the edge of the large window in his spacious private room. Everything around him glitters with splendor from the finest mahogany furniture and exquisitely patterned carpets imported directly from overseas to paintings worth billions of rupiah adorning the walls.
Geraldo possesses everything people could ever desire wealth that will last for seven generations an esteemed position a respected name and a future already perfectly laid out before him.
Yet deep within his chest lies a vast emptiness that nothing can fill. The more luxury he sees the more hollow he feels as if he is merely a puppet moving along paths set by others.
His thoughts drift back to the terrifying incident two days ago the moment that changed his entire outlook on life.
That night his father Ardiansyah Adhyaksa and his uncle Raffad Adhyaksa returned late from a business meeting. On their way their car was intercepted by a group of masked men who acted with shocking cruelty. They attacked using bladed weapons and firearms determined to end the lives of the two pillars of the Adhyaksa family.
Their personal security team reacted quickly and the police arrived just in time but his father and uncle still suffered severe injuries and remain under intensive care at the hospital.
Initial findings from the investigation made Geraldo’s blood boil and weighed even heavier on his heart. This assault was no ordinary robbery but a carefully devised malicious plot.
The mastermind behind it all was someone they knew well someone who had always smiled sweetly to their face someone who had gained enormous benefits from their business partnerships. The motive was simple yet horrifying pure envy and greed.
This man already possessed great wealth and a respected name in business circles living a life of luxury.
Yet he could never feel satisfied. He resented how much more revered the Adhyaksa name was he envied their unity and strength and he grew bitter watching their ever growing success.
His boundless ambition drove him to become the sole ruler and the Adhyaksa family stood as his only obstacle.
Wealth power fame are they truly worth human life Geraldo whispered softly his voice trembling with deep disappointment He already has everything yet envy has blinded him so much that he is willing to spill blood for his own gain.
Geraldo stood up and walked toward the large mirror in the corner of the room. He stared at his own reflection a handsome dignified young man dressed in fine clothing tailored exclusively for him by the most renowned designers.
To the outside world his life seemed perfect full of joy and free from trouble. But since childhood he had lived under the crushing weight of his family name always expected to be the best always forced to uphold an image and always suspicious of anyone who came near.
The attack on his father and uncle only confirmed one bitter truth behind all this glittering splendor lies hidden evil betrayal and terrifying hatred.
Geraldo felt exhausted tired of a business world filled with lies tired of people approaching him only for personal gain and tired of the constant fear that one day such cruelty might strike him or those he loves.
Geraldo wanted to run away. He longed to step away from the heavy burden of the Adhyaksa name if only for a moment. He wanted to go somewhere he was not known as the heir to a vast fortune somewhere he was judged not by his wealth or power but simply as an ordinary human being searching for the meaning of life.
Without hesitation Geraldo moved quickly. He opened his wardrobe and pulled out clothes he had stashed away in the corner for years simple outfits he had bought secretly and almost never worn.
He removed his expensive suit and designer shirt replacing them with plain t shirts ordinary trousers and simple sneakers. He hid his luxury watch and all jewelry inside a locked drawer. He adjusted his appearance messy his hair slightly and made sure nothing remained that could reveal his true identity.
Now Geraldo Adhyaksa no longer looked like the respected young master. He appeared just like any other young man walking the city streets.
Geraldo walked toward his door with steady steps though his heart pounded fast. He told no one not his relatives not his guards not even the staff on duty. He knew if he spoke someone would stop him or insist on following. This time he wanted to be truly alone.
Drawing on skills he had learned from a young age to avoid unwanted attention he slipped out of the grand residence. He bypassed the heavily guarded main gate choosing instead a rarely used side path where the wall stood slightly lower and was hidden by thick bushes. With a little effort he climbed over that high barrier the very wall that had separated him from the outside world for so long.
When his feet touched the public asphalt road a strange feeling swept through him a sense of freedom he had never known before.
Behind him lay all the grandeur power and pretense. Before him stretched a long road leading to the real world the world beyond the Adhyaksa family walls.
A gentle breeze brushed against his face carrying the scent of dust and city life so different from the cool air and heavy perfume inside his home. Geraldo took a long deep breath let it out slowly and walked forward without looking back.
Wherever this path leads me he thought gazing at the crowded streets filled with people moving through all kinds of lives and fates.
I only want to find answers what does life truly mean Is happiness reserved only for the rich and powerful Or is there another light that shines far more beautifully beyond this false glittering world.
Amid the vast bustle of the city Geraldo’s steps slowly carried him toward a destiny he could never have imagined.
Somewhere out there in a quiet humble corner an unexpected meeting was waiting for him one that would change the course of his life forever.
