Broken Serenade

CHAPTER 11: Witnesses

The twins decided to go home together after work. They doesn't want Serene's incident be repeated. They are too afraid to lose each other.

Things seems to be fine for the both of them, at least that is what they thought. But just few days after, they are about to face a problem again.

One saturday night when twins were just came out from their work, they decided to watch a movie, a little treat for themselves.

They were so happy because since they were young, it's just their second time to go in a cinema and watch a very great story. Of course they also want to have some fun every little while. But when heading home, they encounter something that they really shouldn't witness.

A crime. It was just few blocks away from the cinema. It was all happened to a dark and cold street.

At first, they heard a scream but they didn't want to make it a big deal but when they reached that specific location, fear crept through their veins.

They were facing the suspect's broad and muscled back while seeing the victim's body on the ground. They saw how that person rose his knife and stabbed it to the victim's body. They saw a box like cooler beside the suspect and they saw how did he put organs inside of it. And because of that they almost screamed out of fear.

Serene almost made a noise but Selene was able to cover her mouth. And drag her quietly. They hail a cab and headed home, it will cost them a lot of money but they don't mind it anymore. Their safety matter even more.

Selene was breathing so heavy while Serene is still in shocked. She cannot blame her, the crime was really shocking. But Selene have to be strong.

When they arrived at their apartment, no one dare to speak. They are both still in shocked especially Serene.

Minutes later, Serene cried and tries to speak calmly but she failed to do it. She ends up stuttering.

"W-will he find us, S-selene?" Serene asked.

Selene don't know the answer but she couldn't let Serene know about it.

"Shhh. He will never find us. We silently escaped awhile ago, I don't think he sees us." Selene said to comfort her

"Selene, I'm afraid. What if he saw us? What if he's able to locate us? What will happen to us? Will he kill us the way he did earlier?" Serene asked while still in tears.

"Listen to me, you don't have to be afraid, alright? As long as I am alive no one can touch you. No one can harm you. And that bad guy will never come fo us, wanna know why? We are both strong. They will not be able to go in here just to hurt us. Understood?" Selene said.

Indeed, Selene is afraid too but for no specific reason, she felt that she is strong more than that person. That's the reason how did she able to say that to her twin.

"Now, you should take a shower so we can rest. We had a very long and tiring day." Selene added.

Serene followed what her twin said.

When they are already in bed, Selene sang for Serene. She humm their favorite song. And because of that, Serene was able to sleep. But not Selene. She is still worried that's why she cannot sleep yet.

Selene went off of the bed and went to their small kitchen. She drank water and decided to stay for awhile.

Selene didn't notice that she was already crying. She couldn't even cry in front of het twin. Because if she did, her twin will feel afraid more than she already is.

'Mom, Dada, please help us. I don't know what will happen the next time we stepped out of our apartment but please take us away of danger. Guide and guard us.' Selene said inside of her head.

She lay her head on the table and closes her eyes. Minutes after she fell asleep. That's the time her twin went to her and put blanket around her.

Selene thought that her twin is already sleepong but she wasn't. She couldn't sleep while thinking about the crime.

After she put a blanket to her twin, she went back to their room.

Serene hugged her legs while sitting at their bed. Then she cried again silently. She's still afraid. But also overwhelmed on how her sister always prioritize her. She is really responsible, selfless and loving.

'Mom, Dada, I am so lucky to have a sister like this. You are both not here anymore but I still feel your care through her. Please help us to surpass this. I miss you two. But I know you're just around us. And I promise, I will take care of Selene too.' Serene said inside her head.

Few minutes later she fell asleep too.

Next morning, there are news about that crime spreads too. The twin looked to esch other but said nothing.

"I pity that victim, she just graduated and looking for job. She is their bread winner."

"Exactly. I'm sad for her too. They are really counting to her."

"Hope she will got the justice she deserve."

These are just some of the topics of the people aroud them.

Indeed, it was a very sad reality. The victim wasn't even able to make her dreams come true.

"Selene, aren't we going to tell the police about it? Maybe it will help." Serene asked.

"It won't change anything. Even at those officers, they couldn't catch the suspect. And those witness that comes to light are being killed. I couldn't let that happen fo us. So we better keep quiet. Understood?" Selene said with finality.

They end their topic before going to work. When they arrived at their work they just act normal because that is what they need to do. And they seem like good actresses. No one think there is something different about them.
