Broken Serenade

CHAPTER 17: The Music

"Selene wake up!" She shouted and shook Selene's shoulder. And that moment, Selene woke up for real. "You have been sleep walking!" She added.

"I thought I was really awake. I was following the music." Selene said.

"You're not. You're not even blinking. Your eyes are wide open. What are you dreaming about, Selene?" Serene said still worried.

"I dunno. I was just hearing beautiful and sweet music. I didn't know it's title but it is addicting." Selene said smiling.

"You are creeping me out right now, Selene! What on earth is your dream? You're even smiling right now!" Serene said almost hysterical.

"Calm down, Serene. I'm fine. I was just into that music. That music is like talking to me but there is no lyrics at all. I hope I can make you hear that. I think I'm already into that music." Selene said with twinkles in her eyes.

Serene couldn't help but to have goosebumps. It's really unusual for Selene to like a music in just one time of listening. So it's either she already heard it before or the music is just really beautiful.

After their long explanations with each other, the twin decided to go back to sleep. It's already 1 o'clock in the morning. They still have to wake up early for their work.

Next morning came up, things went fine already. There we're no issues anymore. Serene was just hysterical because she was shocked while Selene was too happy because of it because the music really has full emotions. It feels like the music is soothing the aching wound emotionally but at the same time feel like longing to someone.

When they are at work, they are focused on their tasks. But when lunch came over, Selene couldn't help but think about that song. She wants to find the song so she can always listen on it.

Selene humm the sound of the song. Unfortunately, when she asked her fellow co workers if they heard about that music, no one answered yes. They haven't heard it.

Selene decided that when they get home already. She will be heading to a computer shop. A place where customers give specific amount for specific time limit.

When lunch time is done, workers get back yo their station. So she went into the front again waiting for people who will order.

All of a sudden, Selene felt something strange, because of that she held her necklace to calm herself. Then she looked and find no one looking at her. And then the presence vanished.

As she planned, Selene went to an computer shop to look for the song but sadly, she found nothing. She's now doubtful if that song is even true.

Selene went home looking so devastated. That's why Serene asked her.

"What happened to you? You look like you just had lose a million." Serene asked.

"I tried looking for the song even in the Internet, but I found nothing. Maybe I was just dreaming last night and that song is not actually existing." Selene said.

"That's okay. You will forget about that song too, one of these days." Serene said trying to convince her twin.

"I hope so." She answered without an energy.

When the twin is ready to go to bed, Selene began to humm the song again. It was peaceful to hear but at the same time, it feels like someone is being freed.The twin got sleepy so and fell asleep slowly.

"Wait, where am I?" Selene asked her self.

She was walking again and listening to the music. When she turned around, she saw their apartment, so she realize she just went out.

She's a bit hesitant at first if she will follow where that music is coming from or she will just go back to the apartment.

After some time thinking about it, Selene has decided to follow the music. She walked slowly and trying to listen attentively. She want to know where that music is coming from.

Selene is just few meters away from their apartment but the street is getting more and more silent as she passes by. There's no one in the street. And it was a cold night and that made Selene shiver yet she still continue her walk.

Selene was already near at the next street when she heard her twin shouted her name.

"Selene, where are you?" Serene shouted.

"I'm here, she waved her hand to her."

Serene walked toward Selene's direction. Her brows are furrowed. She looked so pissed and ready to bombarded Selene tons of question or worse, she will got scolded.

Selene felt like a child who's being caught of getting too much candy and Serene is the mother who's mad.

"For pete's sake, Selene! It is 12 o' clock in the Midnight, where are you going?" Serene asked sounded like so annoyed.

"I'm just trying to follow the music. Can't you hear it? It is still playing." Selene replied.

"Music, music, music! I'm getting sick of that. That music is not existing. I couldn't here anything. You're just imagining things, Selene." Serene said.

"But I am telling the truth, the music is still playing right now. I don't know why you can't hear it but I am so dead serious." Selene said who's getting pissed too already.

"Really? I am dead serious too, I couldn't here anything than the loud noise coming from the crickets. If you will still believe in what you are hearing, then follow it and be my guess." Serene said. "I'm heading back to the apartment, if you don't want to listen to me, then go. I will not stop you anymore." She added.

Serene turned her back and walked towards their apartment. She was so pissed but also worried but if her twin is still insisting to follow the music, then she will let her.

On the other hand, Selene was there watching the back of her twin. She also glance the next street near her but she couldn't afford to ignore her twin's words.

'Selene, get yourself back together. She is right. That music doesn't exist for real. Just go back.' Selene said to herself.

Selene is still hearing the music but she chose to follow her twin back to the apartment.

When she reached the apartment and went to their bedroom, she saw her twin lying down but she just saw her back.

"Serene, I'm sorry. I just want to prove what I am hearing that's why I tried to follow it. But maybe you are correct, that music is not really existing and I am just imagining things." She said while getting in bed.

"Make sure to lock the doors and turn off the light. I'm going to sleep again." She said coldly.

Selene heaved a sigh. She was upset that her twin became cold towards her for the first time, but she know that it's her fault. Serene talked to her but she didn't listen.

Selene went to their door and doubled check if she locked the door. When she's done checking, she went back to their room and came beside Serene.

With clouded mind, Selene closes her eyes and tried to go back at sleep too.
