Broken Serenade

CHAPTER 7: Encounter with SPO3 Dela Cruz

Today is the twin's first day of work. They are both nervous and excited. They are not sure of what feeling should they follow but the only thing they are sure about is that, they both want to excel. They don't want to fail. Especially, their boss expect a lot from them.

"Serene, hurry up. We're gonna be late. We still have to wait for a jeepney. So we have to be there as early as we can." Selene said to Serene.

"Give me a minute, I'm just tying my hair." Serene shouted from the bathroom.

Selene is a really responsible teenager. At her age, she know how to manage her time. And she stand firm of her philosophy. Except from her belief 'Mind over Matter', she also believe that people shouldn't waste their precious time. Because every tick of the clock, you can either lose or achieve something.

After few more minute, Serene went out the bathroom.

"Sorry, It took me a while to finish." Serene apologized because she know how strict her twin is when it comes to time management.

"Come on. We're gonna be late." Selene said.

It's only 6:45 in the morning and their work start on 8 am. They have to wait 10 minutes for a jeepney to arrive and only have 15 minutes travel to their workplace. Still, Selene insist to arrive 30 minutes early to their work.

"We still have a lot of time tho." Serene voiced out her thought unknowingly.

"Serene." Selene called.

Serene knew that tone of her twin's voice.

"Oh sorry." Serene said.

'You're stupid, Serene. Don't think any further. You might get her angry.' Serene said to herself inside of her head.

They arrived around 7:25 am at the restaurant. The manager was so impressed to see them going to work so early.

"You had enough sleep, haven't you?" The manager asked.

"Oh. We had a great sleep and enough rest ma'am. We're just really excited that's why we are so early." Serene said and smiled.

"I hope you two will be consistent on your performances." Mrs. Lopez said, the manager.

"We will, Ma'am. We'll do our bestest." Selene said this time.

"Great!"

"Serene, let's focus on our works, alright? Let's not fail her expectations."

"Yes yes. Fighting!" Serene cheered.

Lunch time came. The customers doubled. Serene was assigned in washing area while Selene is the one who serves the orders.

Selene suddenly felt someone is watching her. She was almost electrified by her own. Her heart beats so irregularly. She fet somewhat nervous for it is the first time she felt that thing.

She search around the place but find no one looking at her.

She just thought that it is because the place is kinda crowded.

When Selene was about to serve the order again. She saw the police officer who's in charge the case.

"Yeah, I already choose to close the case. We cannot find any evidences who will show us the suspect." Selene accidentally hear from SPO3 Dela Cruz.

"Are you sure this time? Won't it be a great thing if you'll be the one who will caught the suspect?" His colleague said.

"It is but this is really a strange case. It's not just an ordinary one." SPO3 Dela Cruz.

"Miss, can we order?" The other guy called Selene's attention.

"Y-yes sir. What is it?" She said stuttering.

She is really shaken a bit. That case can really change her mood.

"You're new here, huh? Working as a part timer?" He asked.

"Yes, Sir." She said.

"Oh I see." He replied.

"We'll order the 2 pieces chicken barbeque with rice. And kindly, give us 2 Coca Cola." The man ordered.

Selene repeated their order. And after that, she saw SPO3 Dela Cruz gaze on her. He didn't say anything at all but the way he look, something about him made him so powerful. Selene can feel that the man infront of her is really respected but at the same time, she was kinda intimidated because of the way he look.

"Your orders will arrive shortly, Sir." Selene said. This time she was able to hide the shaking.

"Thank you, Miss."

Selene went to the counter to give the ordering slip.

It will take just few minutes to prepare the order and Selene knew that she will be facing the police again.

Then she remembered what she heard earlier. She became curious why the police officer closed the case. Was it really that hard to solve? Or maybe he was just lazy to search and look deeper.

"Selene, here's Table No. 8's order. The two 2 pieces chicken barbeque with rice." The cook said.

While walking to the aisle, she cannot stop herself getting emotional. Knowing that the same case with their father wasn't able to be resolve too.

"Here's your meal, Sir. The drinks will be followed."

Luckily, one of the other crew already gave the drinks. Selene doesn't need to go near to him again.

Selene just couldn't help to watch their direction. Even when they pay their meals and until they both left the eatery.

Selene went to the kitchen to calm herself. She knew that she have to focus on her work not to the gossips around her. It has nothing to do with them first and foremost.

The day just continue to pass by. Because of her clouded mind, she didn't realize that it's already 5:30 pm. There's only 30 minutes before they will be dismissed

While the twins on the ride, Serene realized that her twin is spacing out. But she didn't took the courage to bother her twin. She knew that Selene will voluntarily speak when she feels like cannot carry it anymore.

Even when they are home, Selene just took off of her uniform and and went to the bathroom to have a shower.

After her shower. Selene tell Serene what happened earlier that day. Serene was upset because just like them, the family of that victim was left without justice.

Selene wants to move on already. She wants to be okay when when hearing cases like that. She wants to be fine with it. Because she doesn't want to be afraid everytime she heard something like that. She wants to begin a really brand new life and she know she cannot do that if she will ve living with fear and borders.

On the other side, SPO3 Dela Cruz was curious about Selene. He find it so weird that Selene sounded like terrified earlier. He wants to know what is the thing that made Selene be like that.

He felt that behind those tears, she was the one that stand firm for her love ones.

Due to his curiosity, He asked someone to look a little background of her.

He is thinking whether the girl is afraid of her or there is something makes her nervous or upset.

Because if any case he can, he wants to help her out. If she need his help, he will be gladly to help her. SPO3 Dela Cruz is someone who really wants to help people out. Not because he wants praises but he wants to be instrument in making people's life great.
