Broken Serenade

CHAPTER 14: Threat

It's been two weeks since the night when the twin witnessed the crime. Fortunately, they are safe and sound. No one came and harm them. That made the twin believe that they are already free from the fear of being harmed by that suspect.

They finally have their peace of mind. But little they did not know, they are being watched. The guy still follows them everyday silently.

Sometimes, Selene felt something strange, she felt that someone is looking at them. But when she will look all around them, she will find no one. Because of it, people might probably think that she is having hallucinations, but she isn't. There is someone who is really looking at them. Waiting for them to made mistake, to speak about what they have witnessed.

One sunny afternoon, while Selene is at work, she thought there is someone behind her but when she looked at her back, there is no one there. So she just shook her head and went to the table that ready to order.

"One Clubhouse sandwich and Lemon iced tea, Miss." He said.

"Noted, Sir. Your order will be here in a few minutes." She said and went to the counter.

"One Clubhouse sandwich and Lemon Iced Tea for table 18." Selene said to the crew at the counter.

"Coming up." The crew replied.

Selene was suddenly called in other table so she doesn't have a choice but to let other crew give the table number 18's order.

"Mommy, look at her. She looks like my doll. She is so pretty." A 5 year old girl said as she points at her.

"Lily, I told you, it is rude to point your fingers at people." Her mom scold her.

"It's okay, Ma'am. May I take your order, Ma'am, Sir?" She said.

"Mommy, I wanna have a picture with her. May I?" The little girl said while showing her puppy eyes.

"Lily, you should behave my princess." Her Dad said.

"No, it's okay Ma'am, Sir." Selene said.

She find the kid so adorable so she wanted to grant her little wish. So the girl's Mom took her phone and took a picture of them, because of that, the girl named Lily cheered out of her excitement. Selene just smiled at her.

"Sorry for that, I think she is really amazed by your beauty. Anyway, we would like to order spaghetti family size and a bucket of fried chicken." Lily's Mom.

"Is there something else, Ma'am?" She politely asked.

"That would be all. Thank you." She replied.

"Call us when you need help, Ma'am. We'll be just in the front." Selene said

The customer nodded. And Selene went to the counter.

"You came right on time, this is the receipt of the man in Table number 18. You can collect her payment now."

Selene went to the man she just took an order earlier.

"Here is your bill, Sir. That will be 89 pesos in total, Sir." She said.

"Here. You can keep the change." He said while handing a Two Hundred Peso bill.

"Thank you, Sir!" She said.

"You're welcome." He said and smiled at her.

Selene felt strange with his smile but she just ignore it. There are a lot of task to do.

Hours have passed, it was finally their time to go home. Almost all of the crews were worn out. It's been really a tiring day.

They bid goodbyes to one another and went to ther destination.

"How's on the kitchen?" Selene asked her twin.

"Tiring and felt so hot. There's a lot of order in our Fried Chicken, I was assigned there so it was a very hot day for me and I got a lot of bruises too." Serene said. "How about you?" She added.

"Well, going back and forth from tables to counter is tiring and giving me muscle cramps at my legs but I think it's a bit less work than the kitchen work." She replied.

"That's good." Serene said.

"Oh I remember, there is a little girl earlier who asked a picture with me. She is just so adorable. I wanna know what will be her reaction if she will know that I have a twin who's prettier than me." Selene said.

"Silly, we're both pretty. And no one is above the other one." Serene said and they both smiled.

The twin talked about other things too. They laugh and tease each other while they are heading to the terminal. They finished work 30 minutes earlier than usual. So they are not that in hurry to come home.

"Oh I forgot to tell you. There is someone who tipped me earlier. The tip was bigger than the price of his order. But what I found strange is his smile. So I just left the tip in the donation box on the counter. His smile creeps me out." Selene said.

As they made a turn to the left, meters away from the terminal, they saw a man wearing a hoodie in front of them. He was looking down. The twin was almost jumped out of shock. But they manage to suppress it.

The man looked at them. And they saw that he was wearing a mask. So they doesn't know his face. The twin shivered when they realize that it was the same man in the crime. They stepped backward and it stepped forward. Going near them.

"What do you want?" Selene said. As she covered herself to Serene.

"Who are you? Stop bugging us around. Stop following us wherever we will go. Can't you see? We never talked to someone about your doings." Serene said.

It made Selene a bit shocked. All this time, she thought she was just the one who felt the strange presence around them. She wants to asked her twin but she just let it slipped for now.

"Oh I see, both of you got the nerve to shout at me, huh?" He said.

'That voice... He is the man who smiled so strange at her. But no matter how hard she tried to think what he looks like, she couldn't remember it. And he was wearing a cap earlier that's why it made it even harder to see his full face.'

"You..." Selene can't finish her words.

"Yes, Selene. Did you like my visit earlier?" The man said.

"What do you want? Just to make you stop following us around?" Serene said.

"Oh dear, you have nothing to do for me. But you, you have to do something for me."

"Just say it already." Selene said emotionless.

"You don't have the rights to give me orders." He said. "Anyway, just keep your mouth shut and bury what you saw in your memories so that you both will stay alive. And you cannot stop me from following you. I will be just around the both of you. May you have a safe walk everywhere. Adios." He said and run towards the dark part of the street.

And after that, Serene let herself fell on the ground. She cannot stand it anymore. She tried to be so firm earlier but she couldn't anymore.

And there is the twin shaking and crying at middle of the empty street shaking out of fear because of the threat they have just received.
