Dahlia
My phone was ringing off the hook and every time I looked at it, it was Sebastian trying to contact me. I finally turned my phone off and stuffed it in the bottom drawer. I didn’t have time to deal with them and their issues.
I know they probably wanted me to pick them up from the airport or to blackmail me. Sighing, I opened the bottom drawer of my desk and took two headache tablets out. I was under an unbelievable amount of stress.
Gregor and his family were not helping the situation. I leaned my elbows on my desk and rubbed my temples and groaned. There was a knock on the office door and I glanced at the clock. My appointment was here early.
“Miss Green, your fiancé is on line one.” My assistant poked her head in the office and she gave me a worried look.
“Thank you, Angela.” I waited for her to leave, but she kept staring at me and I raised an eyebrow.
“Is there something else I can do for you?” She continued to stand there and I let out an exasperated sigh.
“WHAT IS IT THAT YOU WANT? SPIT IT OUT!” Angela flinched and then mumbled something about a call from some detectives in America and that my next appointment was there as well.
“Then just say that Angela, no need to bloody well stand there like some idiot.” Snapping at her was not going to make the Sebastian thing go away, but she has worked for me for almost two years now. She knows the routine.
I like routine and Sebastian was throwing a huge monkey wrench in my plans and mucking everything up horribly. Reaching for my coffee mug, I scowled into the depths. I was out of coffee as well. This day was going to be horrible, wasn’t it?
There was a knock on the door and I rearranged my features so I wasn’t scowling and looking unattractive. I hated it when Gregor saw any flaws in me. He never pointed them out and said he loved me, even with my imperfections.
I needed that flawless perfection and it rankled me when I did not have it.
“Come in.” I smiled as Gregor pushed the door open and wiggled a brown paper bag in the air.
“I figured ye could use some breakfast and I also brought coffee.” I grinned and gestured for him to have a seat in the chair across from me.
“You are an absolute doll. How did you know?” He blushed slightly; he was adorable. It was a shame that he was spineless.
“I figured ye were in need of something sweet and some caffeine.” I looked and saw that the coffee had creamer in it and it smelled sweet. I smiled but it felt like a grimace. I hated it when he gave me these sweet, overly sugared drinks.
“Thank you, honey, what brings you to my office today.” I sipped the coffee and wanted to spit it back out.
“I was in the area and decided to stop in, I also…” He was smiling and then his phone rang and his smile fell. I went back to looking through my files and an email notification popped up again for Sebastian.
“Mother, what do ye want now?” I felt my stomach curdle, that old bat was going to ruin the day even more for me.
“Well, ye shouldna have gone to her place, mother. Ye were trespassing and she didna invite ye.” My ears perked up. Now what was Caroline getting up to now?
“I’m sorry ye were treated like that and I willna go see her and demand an apology ye deserved that punch. I am with Dahlia mother I will call ye back.” Now I am interested in what happened.
There was another knock on the door and Angela poked her head in again. Sighing, I shot her an annoyed look and she put her hands up in surrender.
“There is a man here to talk to you about someone named Sebastian Morris.” I let out a curse and Gregor narrowed his eyes at me.
“Isna Morris the name of yer mum’s side of the family?”
“I have a client waiting, Gregor.” He pulled a face and I looked down at my hands. He knew what it was that I did to make money. He didn’t care before.
“I think we should take a trip abroad. Do you have a passport?” He blinked slowly at me as if I had spoken to him in a different language.
“We should talk about yer job?” I sighed. He wasn’t talking about my day job; he was talking about my night job.
“Love that is how we met. Now about the trip, I will book our flight to America tonight. I have an appointment waiting and apparently someone who desperately needs to chat with me.” I stood up and gave him a kiss.
Opening the door, he looked dazed and confused. My appointment and a man in a suit were sitting in my waiting room. I waved to Gregor and held up my finger to signal one more minute for the man in the suit.
Closing my door, I tossed the drink down the sink in my bathroom and splashed some cold water on my face.
Taking out my phone, I dialed the number Sebastian left and decided to leave a voicemail.
“Call off your dogs you bloody wanker. I will be on the first flight out.” I composed myself and decided to meet the federal agent that was waiting for me.
Opening the door, I plastered on a smile and decided to face my fate.
