Anna
I can’t believe Sullivan talked me into this endeavor. I shot Cassius a look and he seemed to be enjoying himself. I glanced over my shoulder as a woman was eyeing Jer in his sky-high hooker heels. Sighing again, I did not want to be here.
“Sully, why am I here?” I ran a hand through my cropped hair and adjusted the dress I was wearing. At least I was able to wear my combat boots.
“You look stunning. I told you, I want to irritate my parents, and showing them my two boyfriends and girlfriend is the perfect way to irritate them.” I honestly didn’t understand why he had to irritate his parents.
He was very vague about this lunch, something about being a trust fund baby that did not want the trust fund. I never pegged Gregor or Sully as entitled, spoiled rich boys. Jer maybe, because he had a designer taste on a dollar store budget.
“Lady and Gentlemen, this is Maisie, things are going to become very interesting.” I narrowed my eyes at Jer, what did he have hatching in his brain?
“Hello, Maisie, I am Gregor’s brother, Sullivan, this is my girlfriend, Anna. These are my boyfriends, Cassius and Jer.” She grinned and greeted us.
“Pleased to meet ye, I am Gregor’s fiancée.” I nearly choked on my own spit, what? I just found out about him dating his grief counselor, but now he is engaged as well.
“Ye OK Anna ye look a lil pale.” I started laughing, and Jer raised a perfectly glittered eyebrow at me.
“No, I’m fine. I just never pegged Mackenzie as a player. This one,” I pointed at Sully, who pouted, “definitely a player.”
“Weeell his muther probably hasna told him yet that we are engaged.” Jer put his arm around me and grinned.
“I smell drama!” I elbowed him.
“Be nice, it is a pleasure to meet you, Maisie.” I felt sick to my stomach but I wasn’t mad at the girl in front of me.
The door opened and there was a loud blood-curdling scream. I put my hands over my ears and stared at the woman dripping in jewels and wearing some sort of silk dress that clung to her body.
I saw Gregor standing behind her and he was staring at me with hunger in his eyes. Just when I thought we had gotten to a place where we could have been friends at least. Then he went and decided to be a jerk again.
“Oh, baby, look at your brother. He looks positively green with envy.” Jer was hanging all over Sully and simpering. I stared at Gregor again and he did not even look remorseful.
“WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS SULLIVAN?” I winced as the sound of this woman’s voice pierced my eardrums. Maisie cringed as well. If this was their mother, I was kind of glad I was not marrying into this family.
“Oh, you didn’t know I brought my girlfriend Anna, and my two boyfriends Cassius and Jeremy. Did I mention that Jer is also married and we are having an affair?” I made eye contact with Gregor again and he was drinking me in.
There was another blood-curdling scream as their mother stalked off. Screaming for their father.
“Jeremy, where did ye get those shoes, I want to know if they have them in my size.” Maisie was unfazed by all this.
“Well kiddies this looks like it is going to be my type of party, oh lookie here is that your little girlfriend Gregor.” I saw a petite woman in a suit standing with her mouth hanging open. She looked like a perfect little doll.
I hated her. Maisie walked over the threshold and stared down the woman who was moving towards Mack.
“Gregor, I am open-minded but if we are to get married I willna share ye with another woman. Hello Dahlia, is it? Yes, I am Gregor’s fiancée Maisie Campbell. I do hope ye are done with yer little fling with my man.”
We huddled into the entryway and Mack looked from me to the two women staring each other down like angry cats.
“How about I show you guys around or would you and your women like to give us a tour Gregor.” Sully was enjoying his brother’s discomfort and I had to say I was enjoying it as well.
Gritting my teeth I walked up to the small petite woman and extended my hand; she wrinkled her nose at my extended hand and then shook it.
Flashing a smile at her I gripped her hand and saw her wince. “So nice to meet you, Dahlia, it seems that Gregor does have a type with doctors. I mean Claire was going to school to become a doctor.” I saw her frown.
I pulled my hand away and put it on her shoulders and stared right into her eyes. “Let us hope that you do not have the same quirks that our dear Claire had.” I linked my arm through Sullivan’s and heard Jer snicker as we stalked into the dining room.
Gregor’s mother was staring at me as if she wished I could disappear and I glowered at her. How dare she treat me as if I were less than.
“Well, I guess I am certainly glad that Sullivan has given up on the family fortune. Especially with the company he keeps.” She dabbed at her mouth and I saw Mack and Sully tense up.
“Caroline, can we not do this today? I just want a family lunch with me sons.” Gregor’s dad looked like he was tired of his wife’s crap.
“It is nice to meet Gregor and Sully’s parents. I mean I thought I was going to be the dirty secret. I am Annabelle, I’m American and I was pregnant with Gregor’s child. Don’t worry though we lost it. Also I was abducted by his other girlfriend Claire.” The room was quiet as I stood there with my hands on my hips looking at the woman who thought I was trash.
“Who are ye to come into my home and talk like that! Gregor, this is why ye are not to hang around with trash like that.” I slammed my hands down on the table and caused Caroline to stand up and hold a hand to her chest.
“Look here you old hag, I don’t care what you think of me. I don’t even care what you think of Gregor’s new girlfriend. You WILL NOT talk about Sullivan, Cassius, and Jer like that though. They are not trash and you may have all the money in the world lady but you are the classless one here.” Caroline’s jaw tensed and she walked over and threw her drink in my face.
“CAROLINE MACKENZIE, WHAT HAS GOTTEN INTO YE?” Their Dad was standing up and his face was bright red. I wiped my face off and grinned at the woman.
“Oh, so we are going to play this game, Mrs. Mackenzie. Alright, Jer, hold my earrings, I am going to lay a beatdown on this broad.” I started taking off my earrings and chaos broke out around us as Cassius and Jer were dragging me out of the house.
Maisie sat there glaring daggers at Dahlia, who looked like she would rather be anywhere but here.
We made out to the front of the house and the men let go of me. I snorted and looked down at my new dress.
“Give me your jacket Cassius, I’m stripping out of this stupid dress.” I shimmied out of the dress as he watched me. He grinned and handed me his jacket.
“You know, I think I am going to like this arrangement.” I still reeked of wine and I just wanted to go home. Acting tough and seeing Gregor again took a lot out of me.
Let Maisie deal with him.
“Did anyone get Maisie’s number? I want to hang out with her sometime she seems like she would be fun.” I have to agree with Jer, Maisie did look like she would be fun.
“I just can’t believe Anna was ready to throw down, with my mother.” We all walked back to the car and I left the sodden dress on the doorstep. She messed it up so she could deal with it.
