The greeting exchange
The Summer We Met Chapter 1 – The Greeting Exchange The golden sun stretched across the calm waters of Azure Bay, turning the waves into sparkling ribbons of light. The salty breeze carried the sound of laughter, seagulls, and music from the boardwalk. Maya Carter adjusted the strap of her canvas bag as she made her way along the beach. At seventeen, she had come to Azure Bay to spend the summer with her aunt before starting university. She had also found a part-time job at Seabreeze Café, where she would begin working the next morning. She paused for a moment to admire the ocean. "This place is even more beautiful than the pictures," she whispered to herself. Not far away, an eighteen-year-old photographer was kneeling in the sand, aiming his camera toward the waves. "Perfect..." Noah Bennett murmured as he pressed the shutter. Click. A flock of seagulls lifted into the sky, creating the perfect shot. As Noah stepped back to admire his photo, he accidentally bumped into someone. "Oh!" Maya gasped as she stumbled. "I'm so sorry!" Noah said quickly, reaching out to steady her before she could fall. "It's okay," Maya replied with a nervous laugh. "I wasn't really watching where I was going either." Noah smiled warmly. "I'm Noah." "Maya." "It's nice to meet you, Maya." "You too." For a moment, neither of them spoke. The waves rolled gently onto the shore between them. Noah lifted the camera hanging around his neck. "I was trying to photograph the seagulls. I guess I got a little carried away." Maya laughed. "I can tell." "You like the beach?" "I love it," she answered. "This is actually my first time visiting Azure Bay." "Then you've come to the right person." She raised an eyebrow. "Oh?" "I've lived here for years," Noah said with a grin. "I know all the best places—the quiet beach paths, the cafés, the best spot to watch the sunset." "That sounds useful." "It is." Maya smiled. "Well... thanks for stopping me before I fell." "No problem." A comfortable silence settled between them as they watched the waves. Finally, Noah spoke again. "Since it's your first day here, how about I show you around Azure Bay sometime?" Maya hesitated for only a second before smiling. "I'd like that." Neither of them realized it then, but that simple greeting on a warm summer afternoon would become the beginning of a story neither of them would ever forget.
