Chapter Eleven
My hand touched the barrier between me and the brave fighter. She was hooked to so many monitors, but what hurt me the most was the tube down her throat. Dr. Callaway said that she was still not breathing properly. That she needed some assists for a while, but she was hopeful.
She was very pale against her pale blue and pink blanket that was tucked under her. With black fuzz on her head. Her black lashes laying peacefully on her cheek. Looking at her she was beautiful. Everything I could hope she could be. She was a fighter.
I watched as her fist tighten, a smile tugging at my lips. The very fact that she was able to move her tiny fingers filled me with so much joy. Looking at her now, I was truly hopeful she was going to pull through. That we were going to be able to do everything I have ever thought of since I found out she was Tristian’s.
“Hey Princess,” Tristian spoke as one of his hands touched the glass, the other wrapped around my shoulder. “You are doing so well. I’m so proud of you.”
“You are, you are doing so well,” I spoke looking down at her. “I need you to be a fighter. I really want to take you home. And we are doing everything possible to make sure it will be safe.”
At this moment I did not want to leave her, just staring down at her. Watching her fight, I wanted her to know that I was here. And I was supporting her, I could do nothing but wait for her, hoping that she understood that I was here.
“Look at you two,” we turned to see my father smiling at us with the kings on either side of him. In my father’s arms were two blankets in sealed bags.
“Is that,” I spoke as I looked at the worn pink and white flower pattern blanket.
“Its your mother’s old blanket,” He smiled as he handed me the blanket, that I used to cuddle under all the time. “Your mom’s tribe had this tradition, where they kept their newborns’ baby blanket. And gave it back to them once they become a parent. They believed that when their infant was at their most unruliness if you gave them your blanket they would calm down.”
He smiled holding up a Purple and grey star blanket. “I always thought it was the silliest story until we had kids, it worked on every single one of you. So, I figured you would be needing this soon.”
“Dad,” I smiled as I parted from Tristian’s hold. “Thank you so much.”
With a kiss on my forehead, he pulled away to join the kings to look at the little girl protected by clear walls.
“Does it really smell like your mom,” Tristian asked looking at the blanket.
“It used too,” I smiled looking down at the warm fabric. “But after mom died, I held it to me for almost two years. Now it smells like me.”
I held it to my face, “There is still a small trace of her scent though, and the boys too.”
The next sniff, brought an idea, “Dad.”
He pulled his gaze from the little girls, “Do you think mom would have, Audrey’s blanket.”
I watched his eyes light up, “I think I know exactly where to find it.” He ran out of the NICU room.
“Where is dad going,” Damien asked as he, our brothers, Asher, Trinity and Serenity walked into the room.
“Hopefully to find the key in finding Audrey.”
It took about an hour before father came down with a light green and pink flower blanket sealed in a bag.
“I forgot that your mom had a lot of Audrey’s things from when they moved here. They gave your mom, her baby blanket with anticipation that she would have the kingdom’s heir.”
“Does it have enough to trace,” I asked father.
“More than enough for your nose,” He smiled at me.
“Serenity, Trinity,” I spoke looking at them. “Get the troops ready.”
The gleam in their eyes, made me just as excited. It had been a while since we had been let loose. It was time for us to go out on a hunt any ways.
“Must you,” Asher asked.
“This is what my troops where made for, no one will do,” I spoke as I kissed his lips. “Besides, I have been playing way to nicely, they will find out why I am the general of assassins.”
The door opened to show the small troop of five plus Trinity and Serenity. I felt my wolf digging at my skin, causing a shiver of excitement tickle my back.
“Don’t wait up,” I spoke looking at my mates before walking to Trinity who was tearing the blanket into eight long strips, four of five lower troop were already in their animal form, stiffing at the offered piece of fabric, that belonged to Cerena and Sylvia, we needed to first trace the girls until we found their mother scent intertwine with theirs. once they got the scent it was then tied to their neck. While the Vulture shifter was is her hybrid form with a backpack strapped to her back with our extra clothing.
My bones shifted as my clothing teared, black fur replacing it. I had used this form quite often, so there was no pain, no discomfort, and did not take long before my claws hit the glazed stone flooring. My father offered me the fabric as Damien and Dante did the same for Trinity and Serenity.
I let out a cry once I caught the scent, once the fabric was secured around our neck. I hit the hallway, down the stair and out to the door. I dug my nails in the grass as the varies shifter sniffed the ground. The sun was setting at this point and I knew it would be a couple of days before we would get any signs of my mother’s twin.
‘found it, general,’ the smaller, grey wolf spoke to my side.
‘let’s head out,’ I ordered as I followed the smaller wolf keeping my nose out for the scent that we were truly after
