Graveyard of the Unfortunate

Chapter Twelve  It was two days out before I could sniff the faintest hint of the scent we were looking for. I would give it to my mother’s sister. She definitely was not completely stupid, not that it was going to save her. My claws dug into the soft ground below me as I stretched. The others were resting in a pile, it would be another two days trip before we got to the target and we needed to restore our energy before the trip could be continued. ‘She is not alone general,’ The Hawk shifter linked. We had to pull her from her current mission for this trip. Not that she minded, she enjoyed missions like these far better that boring protection assignment she was on. That got a rumble for the rest of the resting crew. This would be far better than we hoped. ‘A fight sounds wonderful.’ One thought in particular. With us all agreeing, it had been a while since we had bathed in the blood of our enemy. ‘Rest,’ I spoke to all the shifters as I curled into myself as a shiver of anticipation ran through me. ‘dream of victory.’ After our small reprieve, we were back on the scent. It had already been a day and half and the scent was getting stronger. We had split in three different groups at this point in order to surround the building that was just ahead. Trinity, Serenity and I were in our human forms as the other stayed in their beast forms. The clothing we used for mission were tight and form fitting allowing us to move easily. We stopped just at the end of the tree line protecting the hidden cottage. There sat a middle age woman that looked a lot like my mother, minus a few important features. “Well if it isn’t my sisters spawn,” she chuckled as her grey eyes stared down at me. She had long straight, peppered hair that flowed in the wind, her skin much paler than her daughters. But it was not the pretty porcelain color that I remembered on my mother, hers was sickly pale. She stood tall as if she was someone to be impressed by, dare I say she attempted to intimidate. She held herself as if she was the queen to more than an abandon cottage. “So, this is what you look like,” I smirked looking at the lady. “I see why King Orion and King Adrian rejected you.” “You insolent welp,” She growled at me as I looked out at her. I held out my arms as I shrugged. “At least I managed to bag the future Kings,” I laughed egging her on. I hadn’t decided if I should kill her here or send her to the King and queens to judge her. Both would be satisfying in itself.   “It would seem even I am better than you. Tell me dear aunt how did you feel when you were thrown on your ass, and yet mother got to stay in that grand castle. I heard your tribe would not even welcome their w***e of a daughter back home.” She shrieked as she threw what looked like a ball of flames towards me. It was with ease that I was able to grab the ball that was not even close to the flames that Tristian could muster on his worst day. Even mother had stronger flames. “You forgot my mother had similar powers,” I smiled watching the flames died. “Hers were far superior than this even as she laid dying.” I watched as she flinches at the fact that she was possibly weaker than her younger twin. I toss the ashes of the starter she used for her attack. “She also didn’t need any type of starter for her powers to work.”  “You are so weak, how is it that your tribe didn’t realized you were the weakest link.” “Shut up,” She shouted. “you know nothing of my pain. I was powerful, then the kings rejected me. Do you have any idea what the rejection of one’s tribe does to your power? I lost it all, you don’t understand my pain. You are just like your mother, could never lay dying like a good girl. You just had to keep living.” “what are you talking about,” Trinity spoke. “Sweet little Aria, I knew she would be my only competition in life. She was not as strong at first, but slowly her power started to grow. I, of course could not allow that, so of course I tried to kill her. But apparently, she had a resistance to poison. I had to slowly poison her, her body fought of course, and she manage to birth SIX bastard children.” I felt the vibration in my body, as it clicked. My mother did not die of natural causes but was poison for so many years until her body finally succumbed to the venom. “I could live with the boys, but you. Just like your mother, you got in the way. And your immunity is stronger than hers. Did you know dear niece, you are immune to just about every poison on this planet. I have tried, and then when I finally found something to finally kill you. You two stop her…” “Enough,” I spoke stopping Trinity and Serenity from advancing. “You did that, how?” “You were so consumed about being dumped it was easy to slip something in your drink without you noticing; the hard part was getting the potion from that forsaken tribe.” “Your greed knows no bounds,” I spoke as there was a rumble of growls in the forest. “I don’t think I will allow you to enter the kingdom. No, your death shall be here, where no one can mourn you. Your army may come out we are ready.” “I don’t know what you are talking about,” She shifted as if trying to hide her winning ticket. “It matters not,” I spoke as I looked at her. “You will die here.” The first wave of my shifters had already skillfully made it into the cabin as she rambled. So, when the attack began, she was totally confused and surprised. The scream and yowls that erupted from the building as they began picking at the prey from their hiding spots, the others attacked the men and women that thought they hid carefully in the forest. It was clear that they were planning an ambush, but none of her hired help was even close to our level, and they would die for that fatal misjudgment. “Not many know this about my troops, the reason they are in my army is not because they want the honor of serving under the kings. Oh no, they could careless who they serve. They are much closer to their primal beast that they need to feel their fangs in the flesh of their enemies, need to feel the blood drenched in their fur, and watch as the life leaves their preys eyes. Only then are they satisfied.” I spoke as I walked slowly to the scared female. She had not been counting on such a stealthy attack. Not that I could blame her, not many from of our own kingdom knew what we were capable of. Most people believed that it was just a troop that was created to appease the general’s daughter. It was a good cover story for us as well, so no one felt the need to correct them. I grabbed my aunts’ neck, the edges of my claws digging into her skin drawing blood. “I truly believe that if mother was here, she would forgive you.” “You are unfortunate in that, I did not inherit that trait,” I spoke as I watched her hand claw at mine, she had not realizing that she was already stuck in my clutches, as she felt to her knees, Trinity grabbed her arms with her knees pressed to her back. “Serenity what should we bring back to her daughter’s,” I smirked looking into the frighten grey eyes. “Please you can’t,” She begged as Serenity thought. “A daughter always has their mothers’ heart, no?” she asked I smiled as I rammed my fist into her chest. “That sounds perfect.” I leaned over her, “Don’t worry your daughter’s will soon join you.” My hands grabbed the still beating heart and ripped it from her chest. ‘Alpha,’ my troop thought in pride as the screams of the dying silenced. Another graveyard marked by the blood of the unfortunate to cross our path.
