Chapter 3: HIM

1195 Words
Really Dad, really! I can’t believe it you are so embarrassing. You embarrassed me in front of my friends. Why would you even do this to me”. “Sit in the car and keep quiet.” “ I don’t want to, you are so controlling. Let go of me”. “Kate, just calm down okay. Don’t make me angry! Have you checked your watch, what time is it” “Mom! Really you too! What am I, five” “No! You are fifteen and you shouldn’t be out partying at this hour” “Oh my God really Dad. You have embarrassed me so much. I don’t think I will be able to face my friends again. All of them are still there but guess what, they don’t have psycho parents like me.” “Keep your mouth shut! You are already getting on my nerves”. “ I hate you! I hate you both so much” “Will! Will look in front of you!” There is a blinding flashlight and then the sound of my alarm wakes me up. I hate this dream and I have it repeatedly, especially when I am sad and fall asleep. Such a great start to another horrible day. As usual I make breakfast and put it on the table. My aunt is up early today and still looks pissed. I pick up my bag and start walking towards the front door. “Catherine” my aunt calls. “Yes”. “Come and sit here I want to talk to you”, she continues. I go and sit on the chair facing her. “I am gonna ask you something but I want only the truth. Got it”, she warned me. “Yes, Aunt Cassy” I reply nervously. She rolls her eyes at me. She does it every time I call her Aunt, so I mostly try to never address her directly. “Is Chloe messing around with boys?” f**k! Why is she asking this, especially now? Did she see something or was she awake last night. I mean why doesn't she ask Chloe instead. I am really confused. I don’t know what to say. If I say the truth, Chloe will kill me and if I lie and my aunt already knows the truth. She will be furious and I don’t want to be a victim of her wrath. “I don’t know much about Chloe’s personal life. I think you should ask her instead” I answer with all the courage I have. “Oh, so you don’t know anything “ she asks with a raised eyebrow. “No, I don’t know anything about her” I reply. “Okay, you can go now.” Really? She is not gonna say anything else. I am certain she did not believe me but am also glad she is not pressing me further. I leave as fast as I can. ***** I put my books in the locker and started walking to my Geography class. “Hey Catherine, Hi, how are you doing”. “I am fine. What about you Matt.” Mathew and I are in the same grade. He is in the school’s basketball team and is very popular, especially among girls and one of the reason most of the girls hate me. Mathew wants to be my friend, I don’t know why. He could be friends with anyone in the school. I mean there are very beautiful girls drooling over him but he wants to talk to me. He is handsome. The classic fuckboy type from a rom-com. Not gonna lie, he is always very nice to me but I kind of find it strange. Like he is trying to pretend or something, because why would he be interested in me. I am a literal weirdo or maybe I am just a bet for him. That s**t happens in this school a lot. You are into someone but they don’t give a damn about you, so you make a bet with your friends and make the person fall for you, sleep with them and then shame them. Mathew gives me the same vibe, so when he greets me I greet him back and then walk away. “Quite busy with practice these days. You do know we have a match next week”. I don’t. I don’t and I don’t care. I am not the sports type. I am someone who likes to read in a quiet room. “Oh, all the best” I say and start walking again. “You are gonna come right” he starts walking next to me. “I haven’t decided yet” I am not into sports. Please leave me alone. “You have to come” he says loudly more like orders me and I glare at him raising my eyebrow. “I mean, you should be supporting your school, right” he says softly. “I will try if I can come ”I answered and went to my class. ***** I am picking up the plates from the table as I see that man coming near the table with a sinister grin on his face. He sits down and asks me to bring him coffee. All the time he is there, he is continuously staring at me, making me really uncomfortable. There is something in the way he looks at you, something very evil, as if he is doing something to you with just his eyes. He always takes a long time finishing his coffee but at last he is done and when he leaves I feel relieved. After finishing our shift Maddy and I left together for the bus station. As we are walking on the pavement, I feel as if someone is following us and when I turn back it is him. The creepy man just behind us. I act ignorant of his presence and keep walking after a while Maddy notices him. “Catherine! Isn’t he the man from the café” I look back again and he still there. “Yes, he is”. “Do you think, he is following us ”she says. “I don’t know just keep walking ignore him” I reply. She looks at him again but does not say anything else. We reach the station and start waiting for the bus. He also stops at the station a little distance from us. I look at him once again , God knows why and he gives me his ugly smile. It makes me sick to the stomach but thank God the bus arrives and he gets on the bus too. All the way I am just praying that he will not follow me to my home. I am very scared of him but if he follows me and my aunt sees him I will be in great trouble. My stop arrives and gets off the bus as quickly as possible. He does not follow me but keeps looking at me through the window with his usual grin.
