Chapter Twenty-Six

I couldn't blame her, I was scared to bones too. She looked at both of us and I'm sure she was wondering why we didn't just get rid of the box, but to be honest, I think I needed the box to help me answer the questions I've been asking myself ever since my Dad died. That's why it was important, I really believed I'd get answers this time.

My Mom played the first video of the four videos on the drive. The first video was just him researching old texts, and documenting findings. She played the video, and I clenched my fists, a huge part of my questions were answered from the first few seconds of the second video. In the second video, he was making ritual offerings of goats and other animals. He would gut them and set aside the blood in a large metallic bowl, and bathe with it. He muttered some words as he dumped a bowl of blood over himself in a circle he drew with some of the blood. The ring of blood turned to fire and the fire burned wildly for a few seconds before settling. As it settled, a figure rose out of the flames, it wasn't human.

It had human upper half and a goat’s lower half. Uncle Perry spoke his name and it answered. My knees grew weak as I stared in silence, I looked over to my Mom, Carrie, and Leah, and it was the same too. Carrie was frightened, she was shaking visibly. I swallowed hard and was about to talk when I heard Carrie talk, “ What is that?” She asked as her voice trembled and broke down. I wish I knew what we were looking at, I was both shocked and terrified. Leah stood up and ran upstairs, and Carrie followed her. I wanted to call them back but my Mom said it was best to leave them alone for now. “They will come back down eventually, they need time to process what they just saw. They're young, I'm older and even I need time to process what's going on right now” She sighed and after a while, we continued watching the videos. The third video was mostly Uncle Perry just researching and killing all sorts of animals. We were about to skip the third video when something happened again at the end of the third video. He summoned the demon again and they had some sort of conversation, before they started the demon stretched his clawed hands to Uncle Perry. “Why is he doing that?” my Mom asked and I shrugged. I had an idea but I wasn't sure that was it. We were still wondering what they were discussing when it happened, in a flash, the demon reached into Uncle Perry’s mouth and pulled out his tongue. My Mom shrieked and even I ran from my seat. There was blood everywhere in the video, they continued having a conversation. It dawnd on me and I looked at my Mom, “how can he talk without a tongue?” I asked as they kept talking in the video. “I have no idea” She held back vomit. The conversation continued for a while and after they were done, the demon stretched out its hands again. “Not again” I muttered, this time it took Uncle Perry’s ears. I threw up a bit. That wasn't the scariest or most curious part, after it went back, the ring of fire rose and went toward Uncle Perry and consumed him. He didn't burn at all, instead, when the fire disappeared, his tongue and ears were fully healed. It was like nothing happened. I heard my stomach churn, I felt sick. I just sat there and thought about everything that just played out in front of us, I and my Mom sat in silence and it looked like it was for hours. We sat there until Carrie and Leah came back downstairs.

“What's wrong? What happened?” Carrie asked as she entered the room.
