Chapter Thirteen

Barry laughed as he went to give her a hug. He practically swooped her off her feet. She was basically another member of the family, we’ve known each other since we were kids. Barry dropped her, and I didn’t give her space to prepare herself as I jumped on her almost immediately. “I missed you guys too,” Leah said, out of breath. “Yeah Yeah, you’re going to tell me everything about-” I barely finished my sentence as a delivery man walked up our steps before my Mom closed the door. “Delivery for Mrs. Marie Cook?” My Mom looked at the man before answering him, “Yeah that’s me, thank you” She collected the box and shut the door. She looked at the box, there was a note on it. She jumped a little when she looked at the note, “What’s wrong?” Barry asked as he collected the note from her. He looked at it and scratched his head before sitting down. Leah was looking confused, I collected the note from him and read what was on it. “ About Perry Stevens, be sure to check everything in the box” What in God’s name is with this family, they always find a way to ruin the day. I looked at my Mom as she opened the box, she brought out the contents of the box, it was a flash drive and a book. A diary of some sort, “What does the book say?” Barry asked as he moved closer. She handed the book to him and started examining the drive. He flipped through the pages and stopped at one page “Jesus, what in the hell man” we all looked at him as he dropped the book. I picked up the book and scanned through the page, “I feel the presence of something in the room, ...the demon appeared after the ritual and asked what I want” I closed the book immediately and threw it on the floor. What was this dude messing with and why did he feel the need to want to involve us? My Mom was about to insert the flash drive and play it, I ran to stop her. “Wait, are we sure about this? I mean can’t we just ignore and burn the box,” I asked worriedly as I checked the box to see if anything was still in it. Barry picked up the book and flipped through the pages till the end, “Um It says here make sure you read and watch the videos, so I don’t think we have a choice, Carrie”. I can’t believe they were actually thinking about this, “Am I the only one that read demons and talking, is that what you guys want to get involved with?” I turned to Barry and continued “I mean, we have no idea what this is, why get involved”. My Mom shook her head and put the drive in “I agree with Barry, I don’t think we have a choice Carrie” I sighed as I sat down and looked at the Tv. “Play it then”.

Mom played the first video of the four videos that were on the flash drive, and it started with Uncle Perry researching old books and texts. The first video wasn’t disturbing, and we thought it was going to stay that way until she played the second video. It started with Uncle Perry slitting his wrists and pouring his blood into some sort of metal bowl, he killed a goat too, and emptied its blood into the bowl. “Jesus Christ” Leah sighed as she covered her mouth in horror, I can’t blame her, she came home and this is the first thing she has to see. After he emptied the goat’s blood, he poured some blood on his body and started reciting some words. He formed a circle with some of the blood too. About a minute later, a ring of fire formed where the blood was, and he was reciting the words fiercely. An eerie shriek came from the fire and I saw some sort of figure in the fire. The figure emerged from the fire and I saw it had two long horns, a goat’s leg, and human upper body. I felt shivers through me instantly, “What is that?” I asked no one in particular in fear.
