Chapter Sixteen

****** We went back downstairs and Barry was already setting up everything we needed for the movie, so I and Leah went to the kitchen to get us some snacks and drinks. “Have we decided on a movie yet?” I asked as I set the drinks down on the table. After a while, we decided on one so Barry started the movie. We were barely halfway into the movie when Barry’s phone rang. He picked up the call, and his expression changed immediately. He put the phone on speaker and told me and Leah to come closer. It was my Mom, she sounded like she was panicking. “Mom, what’s wrong? What’s going on” I asked, getting worried now that I saw it was serious. “Hello, I’m being stalked by someone at the market. The person has been walking behind me for a while now”, the first thing that came to mind was what happened to me and Barry days ago. “Did you get a look at the person’s face? Can you describe his looks” I asked as I collected the phone from Barry. “O-Okay, I can try”. “Okay I’m looking at the guy now, he’s…” her voice trailed off as I heard her gasp. “Oh my God, Oh my God”. I got more worried, “Mom! What’s going on? What happened” I screamed into the phone. I looked over to Barry and saw he was already putting on his shoes. “It’s Perry! Perry is the guy stalking me!” She shrieked into the phone and I could hear her running. I was puzzled, Barry froze where he was. A few seconds passed and we were all still shocked after what we just heard, Barry ran over to me and collected the phone. “Run into a shop Mom, I’m coming to you now! No matter what you do, stay where people are!” He ran upstairs immediately. “Where are you going?” I shouted as I stood up. “To get my keys, I’m going to the market now”. I turned to Leah, and she was also putting on her shoes, “What are you doing Carrie, go get ready” She grabbed me and shook me back to life. I looked at the phone, the call had dropped already. I ran to grab my shoes and put them on as fast as I could. “Let’s go!” Barry shouted as he came back downstairs. We all ran to the car and drove out as fast as we could. “Call her again” Barry turned to me as he swerved onto the road. I called Mom again, “No answer”. He sped up as we approached the market. “Keep calling” He shouted as we got down from the car and ran inside. I called again and she picked up, “Mom we’re at the market now. Where are you!” I shouted into the phone and pressed my ears against it to listen to what she was saying properly. “I’m in the cloth store. Store 45” I cut the call and shouted to Barry who was already in front of us, “Store 45. The cloth store!” He nodded and increased the pace. I and Leah got to the cloth store and we looked around for the guy Mom saw. We entered the store and saw Barry holding my Mom, asking her about what happened. “Mom, Are you sure it was uncle Perry you saw?” I asked as we walked over to them. “Yes, I’m very sure it was him. I got a good look in before I ran” She was still very shaken up. Leah took the bags from her, and Barry said he was going to look outside before we left. “Sorry Mom, we’re leaving now don’t worry” I reassured her as I hugged her tight. Barry came back in and took us three to the back of the store, “I noticed something for sure but I didn’t see anything or anyone. When we get out of the store, we’ll walk to the parking lot. Don’t walk too slow or too fast”. “Here, give me the bags” He collected the bags from Leah and led us out of the store. We walked to the door, he was looking around as we walked. We got to the parking lot, “so far so good” I muttered to myself as we kept on walking to the car. I was about to enter the car when I felt something touch my shoulder, I turned back. No one was there, I felt cold. “Get in, let’s go,” Barry said sternly and I got in the car. Leah looked at me and asked what happened, “It’s nothing.” I smiled as I looked back at the lot as we pulled out.
