Chapter Fifteen

588 Words
“Do we know who sent the box?” I searched for the box a bit before finding it on the table. “What good will that do us? Let’s just forget about it. I know I want to.” Barry was scared, as he should be. Everybody was, but they weren’t thinking about it in the way they should have. “I know and as much as I would love to do that, someone sent this for a reason. You don’t just send a box with things like that in them for no reason” I started rummaging through the box if there was something we left out. There had to be something, I flipped the box and checked the bottom. “What are you even looking for, we checked the box already there’s nothing else in it. That’s a-” He was cut short when I discovered a false bottom on the inside of the box. I lifted it for everyone to see. There was a note tucked in it. I took it out and opened it. “What does it say?” Leah asked as she clasped her hands together. I read the note out loud for everyone to hear, “I knew nothing but shadows, and I believed them to be real. Now you’ll know about my shadows too, brace yourself.” I dropped the note and looked at the three of them, “What does that mean?”. I felt a cold shiver down my spine. “I’ve had enough of this guy” Barry stood up and grabbed the note, with the flash drive and book. He went into the kitchen and took a lighter from there, he wanted to burn everything. We had not finished reading the diary, and after all, we just experienced it would be stupid to burn it. “Wait, don’t burn the diary” He turned to look at me, “What?”. I went over to him and stretched my hand to collect the book, “We have no idea what we’re dealing with. We should keep the book, just in case”. He looked at me and tilted his head a bit, before handing the diary over to me. “Alright then, we’ll keep this” He gave me the book and went to the back to burn the rest. He took a bucket, and placed them inside, as we lit the box. He came back inside, and he was smiling, back to his old self. “Now let’s forget about that and go back to how we were before”. Mom said she had a few errands to run in town, so it was me, Barry and Leah left. I went upstairs with Leah to freshen up, and we all agreed to watch a movie after. As we entered my room, Leah grabbed my arm, “What the hell was that about Carrie? What’s going on”. I winced in pain, “Ow, you’re hurting my arm Leah. Calm down” She apologized and let go of my arm. I sat down on the bed and sighed, “I have no idea, to be honest. Perry was messed up in the head, and it just turns out he was even more messed up than we thought. I would love nothing else than to forget all that happened”. She sat down on the bed with me and put her arm around my shoulder “Me too”.
