Chapter one

CARRIE’S POV “Cheers!!” I shouted excitedly while dancing with my Mom and brother with music on full blast. Anyone listening to our laughs and merrying would think we were celebrating a birthday or a positive event of some sort. I guess in a way it was a positive thing for us. We had just heard the news that my Uncle Perry had died. Perry the Terrible, as I usually call him, he was my Father’s younger brother, he caused a lot of hurt in my family and he did not stop even when my Dad passed away. He was the black sheep among the two and often spent most of his time reading about old books and supernaturals. At first, it started as a casual hobby, but over time it worsened and he became obsessed with supernaturals and demons and the like. I even heard he was practicing rituals, trying to summon spirits and all sorts of evil things. My brother, Barry, was pouring a glass of wine for me and my Mom when we heard the phone ring. My Mom put her glass down and picked up the phone, it was a somewhat distant relative. The smile vanished from her face when she put the phone to her ear. “Hello Richard,” She said with a dry voice, she was silent for the most part, listening to what he was saying and I looked at her trying to ask questions with my eyes. She shrugged and mouthed “hold on” to me before turning to face the other side. “Well I appreciate you for calling Richard and I’ll get back to you with an answer soon” She dropped the phone and sighed, facing me and my brother. I stared at her waiting for her to say something first “Well, what is wrong? What was that about?” I gave her the glass of wine as I asked. “Your Father’s cousin, Richard, called to tell us about Perry’s death and that we should get together to know how we’ll go about the burial” I flared up and threw my arms in the air as I got up “Oh f**k that! He did not give a s**t about us when he was alive. None of them did. Now all of a sudden they want us to sit down as a family and plan the burial of someone who did not care about us?” My brother Barry nodded his head in agreement “She’s right Mom, they did not care about us. Why should we care about them” My Mom sat down and looked up at us smiling “It’s true Mom. Besides, how do they plan on burying him when they do not know where his body is? That’s what we were told, right? They found him in the middle of his study, ran outside to get help and when they came back the body was not there anymore. That is extremely weird if you ask me, we should stay away” I hated my Dad’s side of the family. They were a bunch of hating, self-absorbed people who were always jealous of him. We always said he was too good for them, and he always tried his best to be there for them because he loved them unconditionally. We warned him to stay away from them, but he always said “Family Is Family” and that same family got him killed. I will never forgive them for that. “Alright Fine!! You both are right. I was not planning on meeting up with them anyway or allowing them to see you guys. Not after what they did to your Father” She looked at the glass for a bit, her mood evidently changed, then when she raised her head, It was like She turned back her happy mode on. She smiled widely at Me and my brother and said “We can’t let that call stop our celebration. Play the music, Carrie” I hit play on the remote and we continued dancing, forgetting the call and Perry. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
