The next morning I woke up with a massive headache. It was like my head was full of wine and it would spill if I moved too fast or bend to a side. I wobbled to the door, with my eyes closed because my eyes were still super sensitive, I tried to open the door and after a few tries opened it successfully. At the stairs, I heard my brother call out “Well look who is finally awake. Nice of you to join us” He noticed I was struggling to come down the stairs and he burst out laughing. I raised my middle finger when I was halfway down the stairs and started laughing at myself too, my eyes were still shut. “I figured you would have a hangover this morning, seeing as you finished an entire bottle of wine by yourself last night. I made you a hangover meal in advance while you were still sleeping. Toast, eggs, bacon, black coffee, and Advil for the headache” He smiled as he put my shades on for me before sitting back down. I love him so much, he is truly the sweetest and the best older brother ever. “What would I do without you? Seriously, you are the best brother ever” I smiled as I planted a kiss on his cheek. I looked around and noticed Mom was not around “Where is Mom? Where did she go” I stuffed my mouth with bacon and toast as I let out a sigh of relief. “Oh yeah, She got called into work early. She’ll be back later in the day. What do you want to do till then?” He smiled as he asked me. I didn’t have any plans and my best friend was out of town till the weekend, I’ve been counting down the days until she would be home. “I have no idea, Lea does not get back until the weekend. How about you, don’t you have to see that cute waitress girl from the restaurant today?” I enjoyed teasing him. He is such a sweet soul so watching his reactions and expressions is sometimes my source of entertainment when I get bored. “I do not know who or what you’re talking about” He blushed a bit and then said “I’ll see her later. She is not going anywhere” I took a large gulp of the coffee and stared at it for a while before putting the cup down. I was thinking about what we could do till evening when I remembered I had to buy a few things at the market for dinner tonight. I snapped my fingers and he looked at me “It’s my turn to cook dinner tonight, I have to get a couple of things at the market, wanna come with?” I asked with a smile. I already knew what his answer was going to be even before I asked him. He always tried not to say No to me and I know he genuinely enjoyed our time together, as much as I enjoyed it. “Of course, I will, not like there is much to do around here anyway,” He said with a chuckle.
At the market, we were browsing through stalls and getting everything we needed. We were almost done shopping when I noticed a figure turn sharply as soon as we turned right to go to the next stall. I felt super alert, it could have been a coincidence but the timing of everything was just too precise to just be a coincidence. I looked at my brother and he noticed it too, he probably even noticed it earlier than me because his face had drifted to a stern cold look. He turned to look at the figure that appeared to be a man in his early forties, the man immediately darted into a corner and that was what confirmed my suspicions. This man was really tailing us, my chest felt heavy, and all of a sudden it was like I could not breathe properly anymore. I turned to my brother worriedly and when he looked at my face, his cold look reverted to his usual calm and loving expression “Don’t worry Carrie, everything is fine. You are safe” He whispered reassuringly to me and I calmed down a bit. He patted my hair and bent down as if he wanted to kiss my head. “We’re going to walk to the entrance slowly and when I give the signal, run as fast as you can to the car okay?” I swallowed hard and said Okay, preparing myself to run the minute I saw the signal from my brother.
