“Which means…” Tia takes the blanket and covers both of us with it. She pulls me closer, places her legs over mine, and whispers, “I think that this is the only way I can tell you,” she says, changing the tone of her voice from playful to serious.
Then, Tia smiles. “They will think that we are doing something naughty under the sheets. And since you just kissed Charlie and came here, the audience will think, ‘My! My! Opal! What a lascivious girl you are!’ ”
She giggles, but I can’t. I know she’s about to say something serious.
After a pause and a little cough, she continues, “Charlie and I, we are both sponsored to join the Game. We are to unhinge this Game and find out where they are hiding the monster. And well, we got involved in a political mess too.”
