Chapter 9

Chapter 9~The Trail!

Today was trial week. She was so nervous she could hardly eat that morning. Though Chris made a fuss over her making her eat breakfast that morning. She never had really been a breakfast person.

But Chris made a mean omelet. With his special hot sauce. She loved his cooking. One of the many things he was good at. Once she ate her breakfast she hopped in the shower.

Then she got dressed. Her phone had been ringing all day. Friends and family were asking about the trial today that was going to happen. The only one person she wanted to call her had not yet.

Her friend Michael. He had called a day or so ago telling her he was flying in for her trial. But she had not heard from him. To see if he was there in Texas or not. That he was going to make it.

She really wanted him there. As she got on her outfit she turned the tv on there in the bedroom. Michael was flashed on the news there. She gasped. He arrived in Texas.

Texas was bugging. He was the talk of the town. Butterflies rumble in her chest. She sees him going into his hotel. He smiles and waves at his fans as he goes in. He made it. He was going to the trial.

"Michael Jackson will not say exactly why he is visiting Texas but we welcome the king of pop here" the announcer says on the tv. Her phone rings there in her bedroom. She grabs the phone.

"Hello?" she answers and clicks off the tv.

"I am here. Sorry I was running late" Michael informs her.

"I am so glad you made it! I saw you on tv" giggles Selena. "everyone in Texas is hyped that you are here"

"I am happy to be here" he tells her. "I will meet you all at the trial" he promises her.

"Thank you for coming. It really means a lot that you came here for me" Selena tells him. "I mean that MJ"

"I would not be anywhere else Selena. See you all very soon" he says. "After we can get dinner together. All of us. And I would like to see the sketches you were telling me about" he reminds her.

She grins. "You would? Great!"

"See you soon" he says. "Good luck Selena"

"Thanks MJ. See you" she shyly answers before they hang up.

She breaths out. Now she felt better. He was going to be there.

"You look ten times better. See I told you if you ate breakfast you would be ready" Chris says as he enters the bedroom.

"You are right" she lies she gets up and hugs him.

"You ready for this? I mean everyone is talking about the trial" he says to her.

"I am ready. I have the best lawyer. And friends. And family. Not to mention the best lover" she teases him.

He smiles. "I will always be there for you Sel" he vows. He kisses her. "Lets go see if your family is ready to go"

They all head to the courthouse together. She sat between Chris and Suzette in the car. When they arrive her guard meets them there. And fans were already swarming outside to get a glimpse of her when she was coming out.

The press was there. Camera's flashed in their faces. Selena could not tell if Michael arrived or not yet. She could hardly see anything but the cameras flashing.

Her father lead her safely in the courthouse. Chris made sure to watch over Suzette and her mother as well.

They went in the room they were told to go in. Selena sits at a table waiting and then Mr. Cooperland comes in and sits beside her.

"Anything else you would like to go over before the trial starts?" he asks her.

"We covered it all. I am good" she informs her.

Soon they bring in Yolanda. She comes wearing a black dress. She had not really fixed up her hair or make up. She was wearing cuffs. A lawyer was with her. They whispered to one another. Selena shivers. She had not saw Yolanda since the day Yolanda shot her.

She feels a hand on her shoulder. It makes her jump.

"You are going to win Sel" Chris whispers to her. She nods. She hugs Chris one more time. "I am here baby" he reminds her before they all sit back down.

"All rise for honorable judge Carl Kentmore" announces a police officer.

Everyone stands for the judge.

"You may be seated" speak up the judge once he was on the podium.

They all obey and sit down.

"We will begin the trial Quintanilla Vs. Salvador" the judge tells them.

Then the judge takes turns speaking with the lawyers. They hand in information to the judge to go over. There were people there to watch the trial. A real jury. All eyes were on Selena.

Her lawyer had blown up photos that were taken of her on the scene of the crime. Where she had been shot laying in her own pool of blood. There were photos where the blood dripped a trail from the motel room to the lobby office. Flash backs came rushing at Selena.

"Yolanda is a danger to herself as well as to others in Texas as well as any society. She should be locked up. She stole from me then she tried to steal my life from my fans from my family. I won't stand by and allow her to keep stealing from us. She needs to be locked up from life" Selena says on the stand once it was her turn. She could not even bring herself to look at Yolanda when she spoke. Her hands shook. She glances over at Chris who smiles then nods. She did not see Michael there yet. Disappointment makes her heart sink. She needed him.

Oh well.

Maybe something came up.

Soon it was time for Yolanda to take her turn at the stand. Each lawyer asked her questions as did the judge.

Yolanda did not even seem sorry or take accountability for her actions. That was what bothered Selena the most. She was bound to do this to someone else out there. Selena knew that Yolanda was capable of fooling people.

"I know this may not seem like it but Selena I loved you like a daughter and you loved me like a mother. I would never hurt you. I would never steal from you. And you know this. Someone else did that they stole from you. I hope you find who did that and get your money back. And Selena it was an accident. I never meant to shoot you. Or at you. I was scared. You know it was an accident. You just want me to pay for a crime I did not do. You know I am innocent. You need to speak up Selena. I did not mean for the gun to go off. Tell them the truth" demands Yolanda as Selena looks at her.

Anger flashes through Selena.

"You bought the gun after my father was coming to you asking you to give us our documents. You kept them from us. Because you stole from us Yolanda. You had a gun to shoot me. You knew very well what you were doing! YOU WANTED TO KILL ME" yells Selena as she stands up. She points at Yolanda and her hand shakes. "you tried to kill me!" states Selena with anger.

"Order! Order! I demand order in this court! Everyone sit down. This is my court room" yells the judge as he slams down the wooden hammer at his desk.

Selena's lawyer helps her sit down.

"Selena you need to remain calm. Or you are going to give her what she wants. Do you want her to win?" her lawyer whispers to her.

"I am sorry" Selena softly answers. "It won't happen again" she vows.

"I will be back as the jury meets. Then we will begin the session" the judge tells them.

"Selena you nearly lost it back there" Chris worries as he is at her side now.

"Is MJ here yet?" worries Selena. "have any of you saw him? He promised he would be here" she woefully says.

"Selena focus" Chris groans.

"Selena we have not saw Michael yet. The crowd is large. He would get mobbed sweetheart" warns her mother. "I am sure he would if he could"

"Yes Selena. Focus on this" warns AB.

"I am sorry. I need everyone I care for. I am glad you are all here" she says. "I am so nervous. I am glad the judge agreed to a one day trial. That this wont go on all week. I can't stand being in the same room as that god awful woman"

"I know Selena but you are nearly done now" Suzette reminds her. "you got this girl. And we got your back" she reminds her. They all hug Selena.

"All rise" announces the officer.

They all sit back down once they are told to.

"What has the jury decided?" asks the judge.

"We find that Yolanda Salvador is guilty for trying to kill Selena." Someone speaks up.

Chris and her family cheer. Selena grins.

"I will be back with my choice next as I go over all I need to" the judge tells them. "fifteen minute session" he says as he leaves once more.

"Selena that is good. They found her guilty. All we need is for the judge to" her lawyer tells her. "I have a good feeling about this case" he praises her.

Soon the judge comes back in.

"I find in favor of the plaintiff. Yolanda Salvador is sent to prison for life. No bail." The judge announces.

The room all cheers. Selena gasps. She hugs her lawyer.

"You won. You are the best" she tells him. Then she hugs her family. They watch as Yolanda is taken away.

"This is not over with Selena. I will get a new trial! I did not mean to shoot you! They all will see" yells Yolanda as they take her away in cuffs. "I will be free. You will forgive me. You all will see the truth"

"Ignore that woman" says Chris.

"She can't hurt you now" Suzette says.

The room beings to spin on her. Dizzy feelings come over her. She had to get out of there. Away from everyone watching her. She takes off.

Everyone is calling her name. She rushes outside. Finding a place to be alone. Under a small tree there by the parking lot. She leans on the tree. Breathing in and out.

"Selena!" someone speaks up.

She glances up to see Michael. He takes her in his embrace. She holds him close.

"You came!" she breaths out gratefully.

"I was here. Sorry I was late. Fans mobbed me outside" he chuckles as she clings to him. "Hey are you okay? Did she get free?" he worries.

She shakes her head. "I won" she announces.

"That is wonderful" he praises her. "I am so glad. Selena what is wrong?"

"Everyone was looking at me. It got to me. I let her get to me" she stammers.

He holds her closer.

"Hey it will all be okay Selena" he softly tells her. "She can't hurt you anymore"

He rubs her back gently. She feels ten times better now he is there with her. They are away from the fan fair. She needed him. And he needed to be with her.

"You are such a good friend to me Michael" she softly says.

"I will always be here for you Selena" he reminds her.

He pulls back to look at her in the eyes. They smile. He touches her cheek with his hand. Her eyes fall to his lips. She could not help but wonder what it might be like to kiss those lips. Feel them on her own. An ache washes over her.

Very fast. She never felt this way about another man in a long time. Not since she met Chris.

"Selena!" she hears her family looking for her.

Michael gasps as they break apart quickly.

"Over here!!" she calls out to them.

"Are you okay?" Chris worries as he makes it to her side.

"I am fine" she says. "it was overwhelming" she admits to him. "Michael is here"

"I am glad you are okay" Chris tells her. "Hey Michael" he greets MJ as they shake hands and hug.

"Michael welcome to Texas" Suzette greets him.

Selena was grateful he was there to. For her. Butterflies tumble about again. She almost kissed him. What was she thinking?

How could she do that to Chris? She could not let that happen again. Last thing in the world she wanted to do was hurt either Chris or Michael.
