Save Me

I stared at her tear-stained face. It pained me to see her like that, but what pained me more was the fact that I was the cause of her tears, shed and unshed. I took a step towards her, wanting to wrap my arms around her and tell her that everything would be okay, that I had an explanation but as I did, she took a step back, clearly showing me that she didn’t want to be anywhere near me. “D, let me explain,” I whispered. She glared at me, “Explain what exactly? You have nothing to explain because no matter what you say, the damage is done. You lied to everyone, Falen, Seth, whoever you are!” Her eyes were welling up with tears and I wanted so badly to wipe them away. I tried to, but my hand was only swatted by her, “Don’t touch me! You lied. You lied to my family, my friends, everyone in town, to my son. You lied to me.” My jaw clenched. I could feel the sting in my eyes. I wanted to cry too. That never happened to me, Seth Andrews. I’ve always stood by the fact that crying wouldn’t do anything.But now, I don’t know why. It felt so good to cry in front of her. This girl had no idea how much she changed me, how much she saved me. “Just please listen, Danielle, please.” She shook her head furiously, shaking my hands off her, “I don’t want to. But just tell me, who are you, really? Tell me that this is just all a bad dream. That I hadn’t been too stupid to get hurt by the same guy all over again.” I felt all the color drain from my face. I let out a deep breath, “I’m Seth Andrews.” With those words spoken, I saw how she faltered, how the anger in her eyes ceased and turned into more pain, more hurt. She bit her lip, but I was so surprised to see her smile, “It’s nice to see you again, Mr. Player.” “Danielle,” I said my voice weak and defeated. “Congratulations on your wedding,” she whispered, her blue eyes boring to my gray ones. And then she turned away, and my eyes lingered on her. I wanted to grab her, turn her back, hug her, kiss her, and tell her that I will do my best to cancel the wedding, do my best to stay here, with her and spend the rest of my life with her. But my feet seemed to be planted on the ground and I couldn’t move, couldn’t speak. So I just watched her walk away, drenched in the pouring rain, I just watched the girl who save me, the one I love, walk away.
